Details: About the Opportunity
Help shape the future of digital government in the ACT. ACT Digital is seeking an influential Director to lead whole-of-government policy for digital identity, verifiable credentials, the ACT Digital Account and related digital service reform. In this high-impact role, you will help create trusted, secure and inclusive services that make it simpler for people to interact with government.
About the Role
This is an opportunity to shape the future of digital government and lead work with lasting public impact. You will set policy direction and governance for emerging digital capabilities, translating government priorities and community needs into practical frameworks. With strong executive visibility, you will influence major decisions, navigate emerging issues and significant risks, supporting Territory representation in national forums, and bring partners together across government to deliver meaningful reform.
What We Are Looking For
You will be an accomplished and forward-thinking policy leader who brings sound judgement, strategic perspective and the ability to inspire confidence and collective action. You will be ready to:
- shape clear, evidence-based policy and provide compelling advice on complex issues
- produce high-quality executive, government and Cabinet material that supports confident decisions
- build trusted relationships and influence outcomes across organisational and jurisdictional boundaries
- engage and mobilise colleagues across ACT Government,
drawing together the right expertise and capacity to respond to emerging policy issues and directions
- navigate ambiguity and translate policy, legislative and technical complexity into practical action.
Experience in digital identity, verifiable credentials or digital service policy, and an understanding of the associated privacy, assurance, legislative and technical frameworks, will position you strongly for success.
Why join ACT Digital?
Join ACT Digital and work on reforms that matter to every Canberran. You will contribute to safer, more accessible and privacy-conscious services, influence work of Territory-wide and national significance, and collaborate with experienced leaders across government. The role offers genuine strategic influence, varied and challenging work, and flexible hybrid arrangements, primarily from home, with some work in Civic and across ACT Government locations.
We are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.
Note: This is a temporary position available immediately until 4 February 2028,
with the possibility of permanency.
A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
This position is located in a workplace designated for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk.
Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT, part-time hours, job-sharing, flexible start, and finish times.
How to Apply: Please review the Position Description and submit the following:
- A pitch of no more than two pages that tells the selection committee about your ability to perform the duties of the advertised role. The pitch should demonstrate that you possess the capabilities detailed in the “What You Require” section of the Position Description.
- A current curriculum vitae including contact details for two referees.
