Disability Support Worker

Lifestyle Supports

Part-Time | 48 Hours per Fortnight | Newcastle Region

In this rewarding role, you'll support people with disability to achieve their goals, build independence and participate in their community. Working with participants who have a range of support needs, including complex behaviours and high-support requirements, you'll deliver person-centred support that promotes wellbeing, inclusion and quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide high-quality, person-centred support aligned with participant goals and support plans
- Support participants with personal care, mealtime management and daily living activities
- Implement Positive Behaviour Support strategies and Behaviour Support Plans
- Utilise de-escalation and redirection techniques when supporting participants with behaviours of concern
- Support participants to access community activities, appointments and social opportunities
- Assist participants to attend mainstream and allied health appointments
- Promote participant choice, dignity,



independence and inclusion at all times
- Support medication administration in accordance with policies and training requirements
- Monitor participant wellbeing and respond appropriately to changes or concerns
- Complete accurate documentation, progress notes and incident reporting
- Work collaboratively with families, allied health professionals and other stakeholders
- Follow health management plans, risk assessments and organisational policies to ensure safe and effective support delivery

About You You are passionate about supporting people with disability and committed to delivering high-quality, person-centred supports that make a positive difference.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Experience supporting people with disability, including those with complex support needs
- Experience implementing Behaviour Support Plans and supporting behaviours of concern
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A calm, patient and resilient approach
- The ability to adapt to changing situations and participant needs
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Strong organisational and record-keeping skills
- A genuine commitment to promoting inclusion, independence and participant choice

Essential Requirements

- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, Community Services or a related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent experience
- Experience supporting participants with complex support needs
- Experience supporting participants with behaviours of concern




- Experience implementing mealtime management plans and supporting participants with dysphagia
- Knowledge of epilepsy management and emergency response procedures
- Experience supporting medication administration requirements
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Current Working with Children Check
- Current Australian Driver Licence
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Experience supporting participants with physical, intellectual, psychosocial disabilities or autism
- Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support and person-centred practice
- Experience within community access, lifestyle support or disability support services
- Experience supporting participants with complex communication needs
