NQ Care - North Queensland Centre for Animal Referral and Emergency
Townsville
Are you looking for emergency work where you can manage genuinely engaging cases with the support of a multidisciplinary referral team around you in one of the most beautiful parts of tropical North Queensland.
NQ Care is a 24/7 Emergency and Referral Veterinary Hospital in Townsville, bringing Emergency & Critical Care, Internal Medicine and Surgery together under one roof. Our ECC clinicians don't work in isolation. They work alongside our Medicine and Surgery clinicians, with access to advanced diagnostics, referral-level facilities and experienced nursing support.
From the acute abdomen that progresses to surgery, to the complicated medical patient requiring advanced diagnostics and ongoing critical care, our teams work together throughout the patient's journey.
We opened in January 2025 with a goal of creating not only an exceptional hospital, but a genuinely great place to work. Our values of One Team, Consistent Improvement and Transparency shape how our clinical and nursing teams work together every day. We are looking for a full-time or part-time ECC veterinarian to join our team. Our emergency clinicians rotate across a 24-hour, 7-day roster, so availability across days, overnights and weekends is essential.
We're looking for an ECC clinician who:
- Has a genuine interest in Emergency & Critical Care and enjoys managing patients throughout their critical care journey.
- Wants to work within a multidisciplinary referral hospital, collaborating directly with Medicine and Surgery clinicians on complex cases.
- Has exceptional written and verbal communication skills and understands the importance of communication with owners, referring veterinarians and our nursing team.
- Can manage and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Enjoys working as part of a team and contributing to nursing and junior clinician development.
- Is excited by the unpredictable nature of emergency medicine — without the routine skin, ear and vaccination consults!
Applicants must have a veterinary degree registrable in Queensland and eligibility for the appropriate radiation license. Ideally, you'll have at least four years' postgraduate veterinary experience; however, we're happy to hear from exceptional veterinarians with less experience. Previous emergency experience or postgraduate qualifications would be highly regarded but aren't essential.
What's in it for you?
- Competitive and transparent salary package of $110,000–$170,000 + super, depending on competencies, experience and further education.
- The opportunity to practice ECC within a true Emergency and Referral hospital, with Internal Medicine and Surgery clinicians working alongside you.
- Access to advanced diagnostics, referral-level facilities and a highly experienced nursing team.
- Clinicians who enjoy teaching, case discussion and collaborative decision-making.
- Continuing education allowance and support for further learning.
- Competitive paid parental leave.
- Supportive leaders committed to your learning and development.
- Opportunities for both clinical and non-clinical career development.
- Scrubs you'll actually enjoy wearing — hello, Figs!
- Culture celebration days that don't involve pizza.
If you love emergency medicine but want the clinical depth, collaboration and support that comes from being part of a multidisciplinary referral hospital, we'd love to hear from you.
