Secure Work Australia is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Finance Officer to help deliver accurate, timely and compliant financial services across the agency.

Working under the general direction of the Assistant Director, Finance, you'll undertake a range of financial management and accounting activities, including monitoring transactions, preparing month-end journals and reconciliations, helping maintain finance systems, and contributing to process improvements. You’ll also support budgeting and forecasting, and contribute to monthly reporting and the annual financial statements.

This role suits someone who enjoys variety. You'll work with budget holders across the agency, our external service providers, auditors and central agencies. As we are a small team, you may also be asked to pick up tasks outside your usual duties that are within your capabilities, which is a great way to build broad finance experience early in your career.

Financial operations and accounting

- Monitor accounts payable and receivable, purchase orders, goods receipting and accruals, working with our external service providers to ensure transactions are processed accurately and on time.
- Prepare month-end journals, accruals and balance sheet and bank reconciliations, and investigate and resolve variances.
- Support cash and treasury management, including banking activities and drawdowns.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, including chart of accounts mapping, cost centre coding and correcting financial data.
- Support credit card, travel and expense management, and taxation obligations such as GST and FBT, including reviewing transactions for compliance with policy.

Budgeting and reporting

- Support budgeting and forecasting,

including contributing to monthly reporting and the annual financial statements.

Governance, and continuous improvement

- Apply the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013, the Accountable Authority Instructions and agency finance policies, and identify and escalate potential non-compliance with finance law.
- Help maintain finance systems, procedures, templates and guidance, and contribute to process improvements.
- Provide clear, practical finance advice and support to staff across the agency.

Under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS), unless the Agency Head has agreed otherwise in writing.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance.

Successful applicants will be required to complete an Australian Federal Police criminal history check.

RecruitAbility applies to this vacancy. Under the RecruitAbility scheme, you will be invited to participate in further assessment activities if you choose to opt in, declare you have disability and meet the minimum requirements for the role. Applications should be submitted via our website by Sunday 25 October 2026 at 11:30pm AEDT.
