Volaro

Sydney

Shape the finance function of a fast-growing, multi-entity, Sport, Media and Entertainment company.

Position: Financial Controller

Location: Sydney Office (Surry Hills)

Employment Type: Full Time

Salary: $160k-$180k

Company Overview

Volaro Group is a dynamic and fast paced company specialising in sport, media, and entertainment, based in Sydney, Australia.

The group’s portfolio includes Vision Sport & Entertainment (Vision), Volaro Events, and Helio Media (Helio) with further growth expected this year. We represent rights holders, sporting federations, broadcasters, and media owners, facilitating the sale of sponsorships, advertising campaigns, and activations/experiences to brands.

With a focus on excellence, creativity, and story-telling, we pride ourselves on crafting impactful, high-quality outputs that resonate with our clients and their audiences.

We are now seeking a Financial Controller to join our growing team to lead the Finance function across all Volaro Group entities.

Why Join Volaro Group?

- Genuine path to CFO — this is a platform role with a defined 2–3 year runway to step into the Chief Financial Officer seat, not a ceiling position.
- Real M&A; and capital-raise exposure — hands-on involvement in due diligence, structuring, and data room preparation as Volaro continues to acquire and grow, experience most FC roles don't offer.
- Build the finance function, not just run it — own and shape the group's revenue infrastructure stack (Revenue Cloud, Xero, Syft) from a still-forming state, with real license to drive process and systems change.
- Direct executive access — report to the Group COO and work closely with CEOs and EGMs across Volaro's portfolio companies, not several layers removed from decision-making.
- Backed by an investor-grade platform in sport, media and entertainment — multi-entity complexity and commercial variety, in an industry most finance professionals don’t get exposure to.

Role Summary The Financial Controller sits across all Volaro Group entities — including Volaro, Helio and Vision Sport & Entertainment — and takes ownership of revenue operations, accountant relations, financial performance, and statutory and regulatory reporting for the group.

This is a platform role for a finance leader who can bring rigour, commercial insight and governance discipline to a scaling, multi-entity,

investor-backed group, while building the capability and credibility to step into a Chief Financial Officer role within two to three years.

Key Responsibilities

Financial performance and reporting

- Own consolidated and entity-level financial performance reporting across the Volaro Group
- Lead monthly, quarterly and annual reporting cycles, including board and investor reporting packs
- Ensure the accuracy, timeliness and integrity of financial data across all entities
- Provide commercial analysis and insight to the Group COO and portfolio company leadership to support decision-making

Statutory and regulatory reporting

- Ensure statutory financial statements and regulatory filings are prepared and lodged accurately and on time for all group entities
- Maintain compliance with relevant Australian accounting standards and corporate reporting obligations
- Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors and manage the annual audit process across entities
- Monitor changes in regulatory and reporting requirements and update group processes accordingly

Revenue operations and systems

- Own and continuously improve the group's revenue infrastructure stack (Revenue Cloud, Xero and Syft)
- Ensure revenue recognition, billing and reconciliation processes are accurate across different revenue and billing models used by group entities
- Partner with operational leaders to resolve revenue reporting issues at the source, not just at reconciliation
- Identify and lead systems or process improvements that increase reporting speed, accuracy and scalability

Accountant and adviser relations

- Manage relationships with external accountants, tax agents and advisers across the group
- Coordinate tax compliance and planning across multiple entities in conjunction with external advisers
- Ensure consistency of advice and treatment across entities where relevant

M&A; and capital raise support

- Support financial due diligence,

structuring and integration for group acquisitions
- Prepare financial information and data room materials to support capital raise processes
- Provide post-acquisition integration support, including aligning acquired entities' financial processes and reporting to group standards

Governance, controls and team leadership

- Build and maintain a strong financial control workplace appropriate to a scaling, multi-entity group
- Design, implement and monitor internal controls, delegations of authority, and approval workflows
- Lead, mentor and develop finance team members across the group as the function scales
- Model and uphold the standards set out in the Volaro Employee Handbook, including expense and financial delegation policies

What You’ll Need - Required Skills and Experience

- Demonstrated experience operating across multiple entities, ideally within a group, portfolio or investor-backed structure
- Experience across more than one revenue and billing model (e.g. subscription, project-based, ticketing, sponsorship)
- Hands-on involvement in at least one M&A; transaction, covering due diligence, structuring or integration
- Hands-on involvement in at least one capital raise process (debt or equity)
- Strong technical grounding in statutory and regulatory financial reporting in Australia
- Proven ability to manage relationships with external accountants, auditors and advisers
- Demonstrated experience building or improving financial control environments and internal governance
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trust and influence across senior, sometimes competing, stakeholders
- CA or CPA qualification (or equivalent)

Nice to Have - Preferred, but not required

- Direct experience with Revenue Cloud, Xero and/or Syft, or comparable finance/reporting systems
- Experience leading a system implementation or migration
- Strong negotiation skills, whether with vendors, advisers or financing partners
- Experience operating in a sport, entertainment, or similarly complex commercial environment
- A track record of progressing into broader commercial or executive responsibility

How to Apply To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining your relevant experience to [email protected].

Applications close on Friday 23rd October.
