Broadmeadows

Strength Engineering is an Australian-owned Structural, Civil, Forensic and Remedial Engineering consultancy delivering practical, buildable engineering solutions across residential, commercial and infrastructure projects.

Our work covers structural and civil design, forensic building investigations, defect assessment, remedial engineering and construction-stage support.

We are seeking an experienced Forensic Structural Engineer to join our Victorian team based in Broadmeadows, with flexibility for hybrid work.

The role will predominantly involve residential and low-rise building projects, with a strong focus on forensic investigations, structural failures, building defects and remedial engineering.

The Role:

This is a hands-on engineering position combining site investigation, forensic assessment, structural design and remedial engineering.

You will investigate structural failures, defects and building performance issues, determine likely causes, develop practical rectification solutions and prepare clear technical documentation for clients and other stakeholders.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Structural investigation of building failure and determining the likely causation and scope of works.
- Conducting floor-level surveys and survey plans
- Conducting site investigations using specialist tools such as thermal cameras, crack gauges, and moisture meters.
- Provision of Structural rectification plans.
- Structural design and documentation for residential and low-rise buildings, including homes, townhouses, and unit developments.
- Design of timber, reinforced concrete, steel, and masonry structures.
- Footing and slab design, including raft slabs, waffle slabs, suspended slabs, and retaining walls.
- Managing design projects from concept through to construction, ensuring delivery within agreed timeframes and budgets.

- Liaising with clients, architects, builders, building surveyors, relevant authorities, and the internal team.
- Assisting with client management and maintaining strong working relationships.
- Supporting and mentoring graduate and junior engineers.
- Maintaining a strong focus on technical accuracy, responsiveness, and professionalism.

About you:

- A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Over 3 years of post-graduate engineering experience.
- Experience in residential and/or low-rise commercial structural engineering.
- Experience conducting structural inspections or forensic investigations.
- Strong understanding of structural behaviour, load paths and failure mechanisms.
- Experience investigating cracking, footing movement, structural defects and construction-related issues.
- Experience preparing structural calculations, drawings and technical reports.
- Strong working knowledge of the National Construction Code (NCC) and relevant Australian Standards, including:
- AS 2870
- AS 1684
- AS/NZS 1170
- AS 3600
- AS 4100
- Experience with engineering software such as SPACE GASS, Structural Toolkit, ClearCalcs and RAPT.
- Competency using CAD software for preparing and reviewing engineering drawings and details.
- Strong written communication skills, particularly for preparation of technical and forensic reports.
- Confidence communicating directly with clients, builders,

architects and other project stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Close attention to detail and a methodical approach to investigations.
- A practical, construction-focused mindset rather than purely theoretical design experience.
- Experience with insurance claims, building disputes, expert engineering matters or legal processes relating to structural failures will be highly regarded but is not essential.

Why Strength? By joining Strength Engineering, you will have access to:

- Exposure to real-world forensic and structural engineering, rather than production-line design work.
- Experience investigating why buildings fail and developing solutions to rectify them.
- A diverse mix of forensic, remedial and structural engineering projects.
- Direct exposure to clients, construction sites and complex engineering problems.
- Support for ongoing professional development and career progression.
- Strong technical leadership and support towards achieving Registered Qualified Engineer status.
- Opportunities to mentor junior engineers and develop leadership capability.
- Hybrid and flexible working arrangements.
- Up to two weeks of additional purchased RDO leave.
- The opportunity to join a growing Victorian engineering team as Strength Engineering continues its national expansion.

We are looking for an engineer who enjoys solving problems, investigating failures and developing practical engineering solutions that can actually be built. If you are looking to move beyond repetitive structural design and develop deeper experience in forensic and remedial engineering, we would like to hear from you. For any inquiries, feel free to email our HR team at [email protected] or contact our office. Only suitable candidates will be contacted.
