We have more than 15 main sites, including hospitals, centres and clinics that provide comprehensive care from welcoming newborns to supporting older people and a full range of services in between.
More than 22,000 dedicated staff are focused on providing exceptional, equitable, and locally connected care through shared expertise, compassion, and a commitment to continuous growth. Education and training are central to staff development as we encourage all employees to strive and thrive.
Bayside Health was formed following the merger of Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Kooweerup Regional Health Service and Peninsula Health on 1 January 2026.
The Team & Role
This position entails weekday and weekend shifts. This will include day shifts, evening shifts and weekend shifts. The departments that the HMO may be rostered to work in include the acute ward medical and surgical, including surgical assisting. The position may also require periodic rotation and/or attendance at other Regional Care Group sites as directed to support service delivery needs.
The HMO assists the daily management of patients admitted to the inpatient unit under the supervision of the Senior Medical Officer.
It is recognised that a HMO may have limited practical experience, confidence and expertise. As a consequence, performance is closely supervised and monitored to ensure the doctor is entrusted with the responsibilities commensurate with capabilities. VMOs and GPs are primarily responsible for supervising the HMO who should actively seek their advice.
The HMO will be rostered to work 38 hours per week with rotating AM and PM shifts over seven days, according to ward rostering requirements. Plus, overnight on-call duties as surgical assistant as required.
