ROLE
We are looking for a Brand & Design Intern to join the creative team at IRL by Amber.
In this role, you will help shape how IRL looks and feels across our social media, events, campaigns, presentations, newsletters, partnerships, and community experiences.
You will work across both digital and physical touchpoints, creating visual assets while helping develop a consistent and recognisable IRL brand.
This role is ideal for someone who has strong visual instincts, cares deeply about quality and detail, enjoys turning ideas into compelling visual concepts, and wants to learn how brand and design operate inside a fast-moving startup and events business.
You won't just be given a list of graphics to make. We want you to understand why something needs to exist, who it is for, and how it should make people feel.
COMPANY DESCRIPTION
IRL by Amber is a startup events brand and community, bringing together some of the top minds in tech and startups across APAC.
We host events, build community experiences, create content, and connect founders, operators, investors, CXOs, creators, and technology professionals.
Our brand exists across social media, physical events, newsletters, presentations, partnerships, community platforms, and other experiences.
This is a hands-on internship where your work will be seen by a real and growing audience and used across real campaigns, events, partnerships, and community experiences.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design social media assets, event collateral, presentations, newsletters, invitations, campaign materials, and other branded content
- Create visual concepts and creative directions for IRL events, campaigns, partnerships, and announcements
- Design assets across both digital and physical environments
- Work within existing brand guidelines while helping evolve and strengthen the IRL visual identity
- Develop reusable design templates and systems to make the team faster and more consistent
- Create event signage, menus, name badges, invitations, screens, banners, merchandise, and other physical event collateral where required
- Work closely with the Social Media, Content, Events, Newsletter, and PR teams to ensure visual consistency across channels
- Translate written briefs, ideas, campaigns, and event concepts into strong visual executions
- Contribute ideas for how IRL can present itself differently and stand out within the startup and technology ecosystem
- Review existing IRL assets and identify opportunities to improve consistency, quality, and visual impact
- Maintain organised design files and asset libraries so the broader team can easily find and use approved materials
- Attend a 20-minute daily stand-up and weekly team check-in
- Manage your own workload and deadlines, communicating proactively if anything needs to shift
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Beyond technical skills, we value people who are reliable, proactive, curious, and take ownership of their work.
We are looking for someone who:
- Has strong visual taste and cares about the details
- Can take a brief and understand the intention behind it, rather than simply executing instructions
- Thinks about the audience and context behind every design
- Is interested in branding, culture, startups, technology, events, and contemporary visual communication
- Can balance creativity with commercial and practical considerations
- Brings ideas to the table rather than waiting for a complete brief
- Is comfortable experimenting with different creative directions
- Can explain the thinking behind their design decisions
- Takes feedback constructively and iterates quickly
- Communicates proactively if there is a blocker, rather than waiting until a deadline is missed
- Is honest about capacity and manages expectations proactively
- Takes pride in producing work that is genuinely useful, not just visually attractive
BRAND & OWNERSHIP
We are looking for someone who wants to learn how brands are actually built.
A strong candidate will think beyond:
“What graphic do I need to make?”
and start thinking:
“How should IRL show up visually across this entire experience?”
You may be asked to identify inconsistencies, improve an existing template, propose a new visual direction, or develop a better system for how the team creates and distributes assets.
If you see an opportunity to make the brand stronger,
we want you to bring it forward.
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and/or Canva Pro
- Strong understanding of typography, composition, hierarchy, layout, and visual communication

- Understanding of social media formats and platform-specific design requirements
- Interest in brand identity and visual systems
- Exposure to brand guidelines or visual identity systems is desirable
- Experience designing for events, campaigns, social media, presentations, or digital products is desirable
- Ability to work quickly and adapt designs across different formats
- Currently enrolled in or recently completed a design, communications, visual arts, or related degree is desirable but not required
WHAT YOU'LL GAIN
- Certificate of completion and Letter of Recommendation, both performance-based
- Portfolio rights to work produced under IRL by Amber branding
- Real experience working on a growing startup, technology, events, and community brand
- Experience designing for real campaigns, events, partnerships, social media, and community experiences
- The opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of the IRL visual identity
- Access to IRL events and community
- Mentorship directly with the founder
- Exposure to brand strategy, event design, social media, content, marketing, and community-building
- Referrals and professional endorsements for future roles, based on performance
TIME COMMITMENT
- 15 hours per week
- Interns participate in a 20-minute daily stand-up to align on priorities and share progress
