The Healthcare Simulation Support Officer provides operational, technical and administrative support for healthcare simulation activities and clinical laboratory teaching environments. The role is responsible for preparing, maintaining and operating simulation equipment, clinical skills resources, laboratory consumables and associated technologies to support teaching, learning and assessment.
The Officer reports to the National Simulation Support Coordinator, and works closely with the Course Coordinator, educators and external clinical stakeholders to deliver safe, effective and high-quality simulation learning experiences for students.
Key responsibilities: Simulation and laboratory operations
- Prepare healthcare simulation laboratories, clinical skills spaces and simulation environments for teaching and assessment activities.
- Set up, operate and troubleshoot simulation manikins, task trainers and associated technologies.
- Configure simulation scenarios and equipment according to curriculum and educator requirements.
- Support practical sessions and assessment activities.
- Maintain authentic and realistic healthcare learning and assessment environments.
- Monitor laboratory readiness and ensure all equipment is functioning correctly before clinical and assessment sessions.
Equipment and resource management
- Maintain an inventory of laboratory and simulation equipment, consumables and teaching resources.
- Perform routine maintenance, cleaning, testing and calibration of simulation and clinical equipment.
- Coordinate repairs, servicing and warranty matters with suppliers and manufacturers.
- Order,
receive and manage stock levels of laboratory supplies and consumables.
- Ensure appropriate storage and security of equipment and materials.
Health, safety and compliance
- Ensure laboratories and simulation environments comply with workplace health and safety requirements.
- Identify and report hazards, incidents and equipment faults.
- Maintain infection prevention and control standards within laboratory areas.
- Ensure safe handling, storage and disposal of clinical and laboratory materials.
- Support compliance with School policies, ANMAC and ASQA requirements, and relevant legislation.
Administrative support
- Maintain records relating to laboratory activities, asset registers and inventory management.
- Assist with scheduling, laboratory bookings and resource allocation.
- Prepare reports, equipment usage records and operational documentation as required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and quality assurance activities.
Stakeholder engagement
- Collaborate with academic and professional staff to support curriculum delivery.
- Provide guidance and assistance to students using laboratory and simulation facilities.
Selection criteria
Essential
- Qualification: Diploma in Nursing or a relevant Health related qualification.
- Registration: Eligible for registration with AHPRA
- Simulation laboratory experience: experience working in a healthcare simulation or clinical skills laboratory.
- Academic collaboration: demonstrated experience working closely with academic staff to develop authentic simulation learning and assessment experiences.
- Equipment: experience operating and maintaining technical or clinical equipment.
- Technical support: experience providing technical support in an educational or healthcare setting.
- Simulation knowledge: knowledge of healthcare simulation practices and clinical laboratory operations.
- Safety: understanding of workplace health and safety and infection control principles.
- Problem solving: solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Organisation: excellent organisational and time-management skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Communication: strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Digital capability: proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and relevant digital technologies.
- Teamwork: ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- Simulation-based education qualification.
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116 or TAE40122).
- Experience with high- and medium-fidelity patient simulators and simulation management software.
- Experience supporting simulation clinical assessments.
- Current First Aid certificate.
- Experience within a higher education environment.
Pay: $85,000.00 – $91,000.00 per hour Expected hours: 24.0 per week
