About Bennco Group
Bennco Group is a well-established Pilbara business delivering building, construction and maintenance trade services across domestic, commercial, industrial, local government and mining sectors. Our local knowledge and range of trade disciplines help us deliver work safely, on time and on budget. We are a values-led business. Pride & Commitment, Growth & Improvement, Family & Loyalty and Trust & Respect are how we work with each other, our clients and our communities, and they are how we choose our leaders.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced HSE Manager to lead health, safety and environment across Bennco Group. Reporting to the CEO and sitting on our Senior Leadership Team, you will own the HSE function: its plan, its people, its systems and its budget. Based in our Perth office, you will lead our HSE Advisors and keep a structured, visible presence across our Pilbara sites and local branches. This is a leadership role first. You will position HSE as a partner to operations so the whole organisation can succeed, and improve the systems and governance that help us get there.
What you will do
- Set the HSE plan and goals that deliver Bennco's near- and long-term priorities, balancing today's work with longer-term improvement.
- Understand the safety, health and behavioural culture across the business and act on areas of concern with a “fix the work” mindset.
- Lead, coach and develop our HSE Advisors through clear expectations, regular 1:1s and feedback in the field.
- Design and implement HSE policies, procedures and environmental management plans aligned with legislation and industry best practice.
- Partner with managers and site teams on risk assessments, site audits and effective controls.
- Lead investigations into incidents and near misses, report accurately and follow through on actions that prevent recurrence.
- Report HSE performance to the Senior Leadership Team, including weekly statistics, inspections and second-line assurance.
- Build HSE leadership capability in our supervisors and managers through coaching, training and succession planning..
- Manage the HSE operating and capital budgets effectively.
- Play an active part in the leadership team, working with peers and partners to achieve our collective goals.
Who we are looking for
Technical skill gets you an interview. Our values get you the role. We are looking for a leader who lives them on site, in the office and everywhere they represent Bennco. Pride & Commitment. You own the outcome. You set a high standard for quality, are visible where the work happens and see actions through to the end.
Growth & Improvement. You are curious about why things go wrong and focus on fixing the work, not blaming the person. You coach others, develop future leaders and keep making our systems simpler and better.
Family & Loyalty. You care about people getting home safe to those who matter to them. You engage openly with every team member, take time to understand their work environment, and recognise and support them in a meaningful way.
Trust & Respect. You build strong working relationships at every level, inside and outside the HSE function. You give honest feedback, follow due process and can hold a firm line while keeping people with you.
What you will bring
- Around 10 years’ experience in HSE,
including at least five years leading HSE teams. Building and construction or mining experience is highly regarded.
- A diploma, degree or higher qualification in a relevant HSE discipline.
- Experience developing and managing health and safety management systems, including ISO-based systems and site reporting platforms.
- Experience leading incident investigations using ICAM, 5 Whys or other root cause analysis methods.
- Experience developing risk assessments, SWMS, JHAs and other site safety documentation.
- Knowledge of environmental risks and conditions on operational sites.
- The ability to train, coach and mentor others. A Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent is an advantage.
- Solid communication, organisation and Microsoft Office skills.
- A construction white card and C class driver’s licence. Current first aid and a High Risk Work Licence are an advantage.
- The ability to complete our pre-employment checks, including a medical, drug and alcohol test and national police check.
You will be comfortable balancing competing priorities, working independently and spending time with teams at remote sites.
Why join us
- A seat on the Senior Leadership Team, reporting directly to the CEO.
- The authority to select, lead and shape your own team.
- An opportunity to shape HSE culture and practice across a diverse business.
- A supportive, experienced team that lives its values.
- Career development and ongoing training.
- Competitive salary and benefits.
