Who We Are
In Melbourne, water is essential to our way of life.
As caretakers for Melbourne’s water cycle, we care for water, life and land throughout Melbourne: both its people and its biodiversity.
Each time you drink from the tap, flush a toilet or kayak down the Yarra, we’re there. Primed and ready, quietly delivering some of the world’s cleanest water for over five million residents and wildlife that call Melbourne home, just as we have for over 130 years.
If you value making it count, diving in with curiosity, and doing what’s right, you're in the right place.
About The Role
Reporting to the Manager IMS Strategy & Governance, this newly created permanent, full-time role will help shape how Melbourne Water documents, communicates and continually improves the systems and processes that guide how we work.
With a strong focus on content development, process design and management systems, you will develop clear, practical and engaging Integrated Management System (IMS) and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) content. You’ll take complex regulatory, risk and compliance requirements and translate them into well-structured procedures, standards, frameworks and guidance that are easy for people across the business to understand and apply.
This is predominantly a desk-based role suited to someone who combines management systems, risk or compliance expertise with exceptional written communication skills and an understanding of what good process and content design looks like.
In this role you will:
- Develop,
review and continually improve high-quality IMS and HSE content, including procedures, standards, frameworks and guidance.
- Translate complex legal, risk, regulatory and ISO requirements into clear, practical and engaging content for different audiences.
- Shape management system processes and content to make information easier to find, understand and apply.
- Maintain and improve Melbourne Water’s IMS architecture, governance, business rules and content standards.
- Apply strong process design principles to ensure systems and documentation are practical, consistent and fit for purpose.
- Ensure HSE and management system content meets applicable legislative, regulatory, certification and assurance requirements.
- Provide specialist advice on management systems, risk, compliance, governance and relevant ISO standards.
- Partner with stakeholders across the business to understand their needs and develop content that supports effective and consistent ways of working.
- Support audit, certification and assurance activities, including ensuring system content can demonstrate compliance with relevant standards and external requirements.
- Identify opportunities to improve how management system information is structured, governed and consumed across the organisation.
About You
You are an accomplished writer and possess a strong ground in process design and management systems who can turn complex requirements into content that is clear, helpful and engaging. You understand that having extensive procedures and documentation is only valuable when people can easily understand and apply them.
You’ll bring an understanding of risk and compliance, alongside the communication skills to think about how different audiences consume information. Your ground could come from health and safety, environment, quality, risk, compliance, management systems or another highly regulated environment.
You will ideally have
- Tertiary qualifications in Business Management, Data Analysis, Economics, Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong experience in management systems, risk, compliance, HSE or a similarly regulated environment.
- Exceptional written communication and content development skills, with the ability to simplify complex or technical information.
- Experience designing, reviewing and improving management system processes, procedures and supporting content.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and standards, which may include the OHS Act, Environment Protection Act and ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- A strong understanding of governance, audit, assurance and regulatory requirements.
- An appreciation of human behaviour and how people consume and engage with information, with the ability to develop content for different audiences.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to collaborate with technical specialists and business teams to turn their expertise into practical, user-focused content.
