Lead a greenfield industry engagement strategyYour new company
Are you the person organisations bring in when they know where they want to get to, but need someone to work out the roadmap?
UNSW College is embarking on a transformative period of growth, expanding its portfolio of applied programs and strengthening the connection between education and industry. To support this, we're seeking an experienced Industry Engagement Strategy Consultant to design and embed the College's industry engagement approach from the ground up, creating the frameworks, operating model and long-term roadmap that will shape how industry partners engage with the College for years to come.
This is not a traditional partnerships role and it is not a business-as-usual engagement position.
This is a unique opportunity to take a substantial body of existing work and turn it into a practical, organisation-wide strategy that connects employers, industry bodies, government stakeholders, work-integrated learning, academic teams and future course development.
The College describes this as a "build engagement, not a run engagement", focused on creating a sustainable model that the organisation can ultimately operate independently.
Your new role
Reporting to the Director, Product Development and Innovation, you'll work across the College to develop and implement a portfolio-wide Industry Engagement Strategy and Framework that supports current and future applied programs.
You'll review existing engagement initiatives, consult widely with internal and external stakeholders, test ideas with industry and government, launch advisory structures, establish governance pathways and develop a clear operating model that defines how relationships are managed and leveraged across the organisation.
The blank-sheet nature of the work is a major drawcard. The foundations exist, but the College is looking for an experienced strategic thinker to bring structure,
direction and practical implementation pathways. During the briefing, the hiring manager described the opportunity as helping determine "what we need to do, what parts of the business need to come together" and creating explicit ownership, accountability and engagement pathways.
Key deliverables
You'll be responsible for
- Developing a portfolio-wide Industry Engagement Strategy and Framework
- Designing an organisation-wide industry engagement operating model, including governance, CRM ownership and stakeholder responsibilities
- Creating a repeatable methodology for identifying workforce demand and skills gaps that informs future program development
- Testing and refining UNSW College's employer value proposition with industry stakeholders
- Establishing and launching industry advisory structures, including convening the first Industry Advisory Board
- Building pathways for industry input into course development and review processes
- Preparing business cases, resource recommendations, KPIs and longer-term roadmaps for the ongoing function
- Delivering capability-building workshops and ensuring full knowledge transfer to internal teams.
What you'll need to succeed
What you'll get in return

- Six-month engagement with potential extension opportunities for implementation support
- Flexible working arrangements with hybrid options available
- Opportunity to influence the future direction of applied higher education programs
- Broad exposure to senior academic, executive, industry and government stakeholders
- Kensington campus location with access to the broader UNSW ecosystem
