Why work with us

Every child and young person deserves a outstanding education. We have a strategy that aims to unlock every child’s potential now and into the future, one that in partnership with learners, students, parents and the wider South Australian community will build a world-leading public education system. One that is equitable and prioritises learning and wellbeing. Together we will make our education system the best it can be. When our children and young people thrive, so do our communities and our state.

About the role

As members of the English and Literacy Unit, Literacy Coaches support improved literacy outcomes for South Australian students by providing specialist expertise in phonics instruction and effective reading pedagogy, including students with dyslexia and other learning difficulties. Literacy Coaches work collaboratively with principals, school leaders, teachers, and Department for Education colleagues to deliver responsive professional learning and support. This includes supporting the delivery of statewide initiatives such as the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check and Year 2 Phonics Recheck, running professional learning events, and helping schools use data to inform differentiated teaching and reading intervention.
