Data-focused finance role within Australia’s largest independent pet retailer.
Over the past 20 years, PetO has grown from a single store on Sydney’s northern beaches into a much-loved national brand. Following our acquisition of 41 stores and 22 co-located vet clinics, we are now operating at national scale and continuing to invest in our Finance function to support the next phase of growth.
We are creating a new Junior Accountant – Financial Data & Reporting position to strengthen our data analysis and reporting capability across the Finance team. This is an entry-level opportunity for an analytically-minded accounting, finance, or analytics graduate seeking exposure to financial data analysis, management reporting, and broader finance activities within a multi-entity retail and veterinary business.
About the role
Reporting to senior members of the Finance team, this is an entry-level role with a primary focus on financial data analysis and management reporting, supported by broader assistance across the Finance function. You will work closely with the Finance, Procurement, Operations, and Store teams, taking ownership of assigned tasks while developing a strong foundation in how a national multi-entity finance function operates.
Key responsibilities
- Extract, organise, and analyse financial and operational data across PetO’s multi-entity store and clinic network to support Finance team insights and reporting.
- Maintain regular management reports, performance dashboards, and data summaries for Finance leadership and business stakeholders.
- Assist with data analysis on procurement, supplier spend, pricing, and inventory metrics to support business decision-making.
- Support data integrity and reporting accuracy by identifying anomalies, investigating discrepancies, and recommending data improvements.
- Coordinate the flow of financial and operational data between Finance, Procurement, Operations, and Store teams.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of Finance reporting tools, templates, and analytical frameworks.
- Assist with other ad-hoc finance functions and projects as required.
About you
- A completed degree in Accounting, Commerce, Finance, Data Analytics, or a related discipline.
- A clear interest in data-driven finance and business analytics; prior internship or part-time analytical experience is advantageous but not essential.
- Strong analytical aptitude with a methodical, accurate approach to working with large datasets.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (formulas, pivot tables, lookups); exposure to Power BI, SQL, or other data tools is highly regarded.
- Strong critical thinking and curiosity about the story behind the numbers.
- A sense of ownership over your work, with the drive to see tasks through to completion accurately, on time, and to a high standard.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data and findings clearly to non-finance stakeholders.
- Organised, proactive, and capable of managing multiple priorities effectively.
- Commenced CA, CPA, or other professional studies; study support is available for the right candidate.
