- Develop and review functional statements, organisational charts and project information to determine the functions and responsibilities of workers and work units, and identify areas of duplication.
- Establish work measurement programs and analyse work samples to develop standards for labour utilisation.
- Analyse workforce utilisation, facility layout, operational data, and production schedules and costs to determine optimum worker and equipment efficiencies.
- Design mechanical equipment, machines, and components and products for manufacture, and plan systems for construction.
- Develop specifications for manufacture, and determine materials, equipment, piping, material flows, capacities and layout of plant and systems.
- Organise and manage project labour and the delivery of materials, plant and equipment.
- Establish standards and policies for installation, modification, quality control, testing, inspection and maintenance in accordance with engineering principles, relevant Australian Standards and Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation.
- Carry out regular inspections of plant and equipment to ensure optimum performance is maintained.
- Direct the maintenance of plant buildings and equipment, and coordinate requirements for new designs, surveys and maintenance schedules.
- Oversee the assembly, installation and commissioning of new mechanical plant and equipment, including testing and handover to operations.
- Prepare engineering drawings, technical reports, cost estimates and documentation, and liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers.
Key Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering (or a closely related engineering discipline), or an overseas qualification assessed as comparable by Engineers Australia.
- Proven experience in mechanical design, plant operations or process engineering.
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles, Australian Standards, WHS requirements, and quality control systems.
- Proficiency with relevant engineering and design software
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and project management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise across technical and non-technical teams.
- Membership of Engineers Australia (or eligibility) preferred; registration under a state scheme where required for the work (e.g. RPEQ in Queensland, Professional Engineer registration in Victoria).
