Are you an early-career lawyer looking to build your expertise in commercial law while working on matters that have a meaningful impact across the Northern Territory?
This is an opportunity to work on major infrastructure projects, significant commercial transactions, land development, resources and native title matters, statutory interpretation including environmental matters, and strategic government initiatives, while working closely with experienced government lawyers and developing strong relationships with clients across the Northern Territory.
The Commercial Division of the Solicitor for the Northern Territory provides trusted legal advice to government agencies, statutory authorities and public sector clients across a diverse range of high-profile and complex matters. Our work influences major projects and policy outcomes that have a direct impact on Territorians and the broader community.
Commercial Division lawyers work on some of the Territory's most significant projects and transactions. You will develop a broad commercial skillset through exposure to broad range of matters, working closely with government decision-makers and major private law firms, and contributing to strategic outcomes across the Territory.
You will manage your own files and matters while being supported by experienced senior practitioners who are committed to mentoring junior lawyers and supporting their professional development. From an early stage, you will have direct client contact, opportunities to attend negotiations, meetings and briefings, and responsibility for progressing matters that contribute to key government priorities.
You will draft and negotiate commercial agreements, prepare legal advice and briefs, represent the Solicitor for the Northern Territory and build strong relationships with clients.
The role requires strong legal analysis, sound judgement and the ability to communicate practical, solution-focused advice drafted for different types of audiences.
We are looking for a motivated legal practitioner who enjoys solving complex problems, can manage competing priorities and delivers high-quality work within tight timeframes. You will be confident working both independently and as part of a team and be committed to providing exceptional client service.
To be successful, you must be admitted as an Australian legal practitioner and be eligible to obtain a Northern Territory practising certificate. Experience in commercial, government, major projects, statutory interpretation, property, or procurement will be highly regarded. Applicants with transferable experience and a genuine interest in public sector commercial practice are encouraged to apply.
Why Join Us?
This is more than a legal role. It is an opportunity to develop a sophisticated commercial practice while advising on projects and transactions that shape the future of the Northern Territory. You will enjoy meaningful responsibility, direct client engagement and broad exposure across multiple areas of commercial law from an early stage of your career.
Our lawyers combine high-quality commercial legal practice with meaningful public impact. You will see your advice translated into outcomes that support infrastructure delivery, economic development and services for Territorians.
If you are looking for stimulating legal work, meaningful public sector impact and the chance to be part of a high-performing team, we encourage you to apply.
