About the role
The NSW Reconstruction Authority is seeking a motivated and collaborative Program Strategy Officer to support the design, implementation and continuous improvement of strategic community preparedness initiatives across NSW. Working within a energetic team, you will contribute to programs that strengthen community resilience, improve disaster preparedness outcomes, and support the NSW Government's disaster risk reduction objectives.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work with government agencies, councils, community and non-government organisations, industry and academic partners to develop practical, evidence-based approaches that help communities understand their risks and take action before disasters occur. The position will also play an integral role in supporting the planning and delivery of the NSW Get Ready Program (including the NSW Get Ready Survey), helping inform preparedness strategies and community engagement activities across the state.
In this role you will:
- Support the development and delivery of risk awareness and community preparedness strategies, programs and initiatives aligned with NSW Government priorities and community needs.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders across government agencies, councils, community and non-government organisations, industry and academic partners and the private sector.
- Support the development of awareness, engagement and behaviour change strategies that encourage preparedness across diverse communities.
- Contribute to practical approaches that improve disaster preparedness outcomes for communities, particularly those most at risk or less able to engage through traditional channels.
- Support local preparedness analysis and planning activities using data, community insights and best-practice approaches.
- Provide secretariat and governance support, including the preparation of agendas,
reports, presentations and program updates.
- Support the planning and implementation of disaster risk reduction and preparedness programs using monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) frameworks and tools, including program logics.
- Research emerging trends and best-practice approaches in disaster risk reduction and preparedness and translate findings into practical resources, tools and guidance materials.
About you
You are a proactive and organised professional with strong stakeholder engagement skills and a passion for strengthening community resilience. You enjoy working collaboratively, coordinating multiple priorities and translating information into practical actions that deliver positive outcomes for communities.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Experience supporting the delivery of programs, projects or initiatives within government, community development, resilience, emergency management or a related field.
- Knowledge of, or a strong interest in, disaster preparedness, community resilience and risk reduction principles.
- Experience coordinating projects, governance groups, advisory forums or stakeholder engagement activities.
- Strong written communication skills, including experience preparing reports, presentations, briefing materials and meeting documentation.
- Well-developed stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to work effectively across diverse groups and sectors.
- An understanding of community development principles and the importance of inclusive engagement approaches.
- The ability to analyse information, identify emerging issues and contribute to evidence-based solutions.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity, including an understanding of how communication and engagement approaches may need to be adapted to different communities and contexts.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in project management,
change management, or communications, to develop, drive and implement awareness, engagement, or behaviour change strategies and programs.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to programs that help communities better understand risk, build preparedness and strengthen resilience to future disasters. If you are passionate about community outcomes, stakeholder collaboration and delivering meaningful initiatives that make a difference across NSW, we encourage you to apply.
