Amber Aged Care is a community-based, not-for-profit organisation located in Paradise, South Australia, providing residential aged care and retirement living services.

Our residential aged care facility accommodates 40 older persons across five houses, alongside our adjoining Amberlie Retirement Village.

As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dependable and motivated Maintenance and Gardening Officer who takes pride in maintaining safe, comfortable and well-presented facilities.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a practical, reliable and proactive person to undertake general maintenance, minor repairs, preventative maintenance and gardening across our residential aged care facility and retirement village.

This is a hands-on role involving both indoor and outdoor work, with responsibility for helping maintain our buildings, equipment, gardens and grounds.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with management, staff and external contractors to ensure maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption to older persons.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Undertake general property maintenance, minor repairs and basic handyman duties

- Maintain lawns, gardens, garden beds, pathways and outdoor areas

- Perform mowing, edging, pruning, weeding, watering and general grounds maintenance

- Undertake routine preventative maintenance and property inspections

- Identify, report and assist in rectifying building, equipment and environmental hazards

- Respond to maintenance requests and prioritise work according to safety and operational needs

- Maintain gardening equipment, tools and maintenance supplies in a safe and serviceable condition

- Assist with routine inspections of essential services and safety equipment within the scope of the role

- Liaise with and coordinate external tradespeople and contractors as directed

- Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection checklists and completed work orders





- Assist with general property improvements and maintenance projects

- Ensure all activities comply with workplace health and safety requirements and organisational policies

- Respect the privacy, dignity and safety of older persons when undertaking work within residential areas

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for someone who is dependable, practical and takes pride in their work.

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

- Previous experience in general maintenance, property maintenance, gardening or a similar practical role

- Competence in basic repairs and use of common maintenance tools and gardening equipment

- Ability to identify maintenance concerns and resolve routine issues safely

- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff and contractors

- Positive communication skills and a professional, respectful manner

- Commitment to workplace health and safety and maintaining a hazard-free environment
- A willingness to work within a residential aged care environment

Previous experience in aged care, retirement living or facilities maintenance will be highly regarded.

Relevant trade qualifications, horticultural qualifications and experience with preventative maintenance systems are desirable but not essential.

Work requiring a licensed tradesperson must be referred to appropriately qualified and licensed contractors.

MANDATORY EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS The successful applicant must:

- Satisfy applicable aged care worker screening requirements, including an acceptable National Police Certificate or NDIS Worker Screening Check

- Hold a current driver's licence

- Complete mandatory organisational induction and required training





- Comply with the Aged Care Code of Conduct and relevant organisational policies

- Follow infection prevention and control, emergency management and workplace health and safety procedures

- Demonstrate an understanding of privacy, dignity and respectful conduct when working around older persons

- Be able to safely undertake the inherent physical requirements of the role, with reasonable adjustments where appropriate

Employment is subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks and verification of relevant credentials.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

Employment will be offered in accordance with the Aged Care Award 2010 (MA000018), with the applicable classification and remuneration determined by the responsibilities, skills and experience required for the position.

Applicable award entitlements, including leave, allowances, penalty rates and overtime where relevant, will be provided.

The successful applicant will receive organisational induction, workplace safety training and ongoing support.
