Governance, Risk and Compliance Lead, Shared Services

Job: | Full-Time | Permanent | Redfern, NSW| $120,477 - $129,490 (Based on Experience)

The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities.

Your Impact

As a valued member of the Governance Risk and Compliance team, you’ll play a key role in the implementationand ongoing operationof the ALS’ GRCframework, helping strengthengovernance, assurance, and organisationalresilience. Working acrossthe organisation, therole helps embedpracticalrisk and compliancepractices that supportaccountability, continuousimprovement, and betteroutcomes for community. Each day, you will:

- Support the implementation and continuousimprovement of theALS’ enterprise risk, compliance, and assuranceframeworks.
- Coordinate risk assessments, maintain risk and compliance registers, monitor actions and supportbusiness areas tomanage their obligations.
- Coordinate assurance activities, control reviews and audits, including tracking findings, actions, and remediation.
- Prepare clear and accurate reports, dashboards and insights for management, Executive and governanceforums.
- Support governance, businesscontinuity, resilience,and incident managementactivities, including maintainingrelevant policies, processes,and documentation.




- Help build apositive risk andcompliance culture throughpractical guidance, training, stakeholder engagementand continuous improvement.

Your Story & Strengths

You’re a skilledGovernance, Risk & Complianceprofessional who canturn complex informationinto practical adviceand help strengthenhow the ALSmanages risk, compliance,and assurance. Youunderstand the importanceof strong governancein supporting anAboriginal community-controlledorganisation and bring:

- 4+ years’ experience in governance, risk, compliance, assurance, or audit, with relevant tertiaryqualifications.
- Strong understanding of enterprise risk management, compliance, internal controls, and contemporary frameworks, such as ISO 31000.
- Experience supporting risk assessments, compliancereviews, assurance activitiesand maintaining registers, action plans andreporting.
- Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to turn information into practical adviceand identify emergingrisks.
- Strong digital and reporting skills, including Microsoft Office, Exceland Power BI, with experience usingor supporting GRCsystems desirable.
- A genuine understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal cultureand community, witha commitment toculturally secure, community-informed practice.




- Experience using GRCsystems and workingacross charity governance, assurance frameworks andcomplex funding, regulatoryand contractual obligationsis desirable.
