It trades Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday from 8:00am to 12:00pm. With a steadily growing customer base, the workshop now has a full-time opening for a qualified Motor Mechanic who takes pride in careful, well-explained work and wants to be part of a small, close-knit team.
Motor
Mechanic | Cheltenham Autocare (SDPN Group Pty Ltd) | Cheltenham, VIC Key Responsibilities
- Carry out manufacturer-compliant log book servicing, general servicing and tune-ups on customers' vehicles to the intervals and specifications set by each manufacturer, so that vehicles run smoothly and efficiently and stay within emission and pollution standards. This includes oil and filter changes, fluid checks and top-ups, belt and hose inspections, air conditioning servicing and tyre fitting and balancing, with the work completed recorded accurately on the job card and in the customer's service history.
- Diagnose faults in engines and in the fuel, ignition, cooling, charging, braking,
clutch and drivetrain systems using the workshop's scan tools and electronic diagnostic equipment together with road testing and hands-on inspection, interpret fault codes and live data to confirm the root cause of the problem, and work out the most practical and cost-effective repair for the customer.
- Strip down and remove engine assemblies, gearboxes and transmissions, clutches, steering and suspension components and other mechanical units, check each part for wear, damage or failure, and repair or replace worn and defective parts, working from manufacturer service manuals and technical data so that the correct procedures, clearances and torque settings are followed. Rebuild and refit engines, components and assemblies once the repair is complete, making sure everything is correctly aligned, connected and secured.
- Test and adjust repaired parts and systems after every job, using the diagnostic computer and a road test where needed, to confirm the vehicle performs as it should before it is returned to the customer. Carry out brake inspections, measure pad, disc and drum wear, replace brake components and bleed and adjust hydraulic systems as required.
- Inspect vehicles against Victorian roadworthiness requirements, identify any defects and prepare a clear list of the work needed to bring the vehicle up to standard, and issue roadworthy certificates once licensed as a vehicle tester.
- Explain diagnoses and recommended repairs to customers in plain language,
take photos of worn parts and completed work so customers can see exactly what was done, prepare accurate quotes and keep the workshop informed of progress so that online bookings and the pick-up and drop-off service run to time. Order parts, keep tools and equipment in good working order, maintain a clean and safe workshop, and follow workplace health and safety and environmental requirements for the handling and disposal of oils, fluids, batteries and used parts.
