About the role:
The National Assistant Accountant will provide assistance and support our National Finance Department covering areas from Financial & Management Accounting, Banking, Cashflows, Debtors, Fixed Asset Management and Accounts payable.
Financial & Management Accounting
- Prepare monthly and year-end accounts
- Review and reconcile project and branch profit & loss statements
- Review and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
- Prepare monthly Business Activity Statements (BAS)
- Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) returns.
- Maintain and update existing Power BI dashboards for accurate and timely reporting.
- Investigate discrepancies and provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting.
- Maintain company and trust registrations, directors’ records, and compliance requirements.
Banking, Cashflows & Debtors
- Process fortnightly Supplier payments – EFT payment run
- Set up BPAY and International payments online
- Perform bank reconciliations and manage cashflow worksheets.
- Organise bank guarantees and Manage periodical payments
- Report on doubtful debts to assist with debt collection processes.
Fixed Assets Management
- Maintain the Fixed Assets Register, including acquisitions and disposals.
- Review capital purchases and ensure correct capitalization.
- Perform end-of-year fixed asset reviews and reconciliations.
Accounts Payable
- Process national accounts payable invoices and monitor compliance with GST and supplier requirements.
- Facilitate Supplier set up and verification with EFTSure
- Update supplier EFT details and resolve AP-related issues.
Experience:
- 1-3 years experience working in accounting roles
- Deltek VantagePoint or similar ERP system experience a distinct advantage
- Familiarity with Power BI preferred, but not essential
- Strong reconciliation skills in both accounting & information systems
- Must have extremely robust MS Excel skills
- Be a great team player & collaborator to develop positive relationships with team members
- Be honest, reliable, meticulous, thorough and methodical
- Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate communicating honestly and clearly with respect other views and opinions of others on the team
- Flexibility and adaptability – ability & willingness to acquire new skills with open-mindedness to new tasks and new challenges
- Strong work ethic with positive attitude & conscientiousness
- Ability to work under pressure and manage time effectively
- Self-motivated with positive attitude & initiative
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail while maintaining an understanding for bigger picture
