Performance Mechanic / Automotive Technician

Part-Time or Subcontractor | Sunshine Coast Diesel Tuning (SCDT) | Warana, QLD

Sunshine Coast Diesel Tuning (SCDT) is looking for an experienced and capable mechanic / automotive technician to join our workshop on a part-time basis or as a subcontractor.

This isn’t a standard servicing role.

Our workshop is focused heavily on diesel performance, ECU and transmission tuning, performance upgrades and modified vehicles. We’re looking for someone who enjoys working on performance vehicles and takes pride in doing clean, professional mechanical work.

The position would suit an experienced mechanic wanting a few days per week, someone running their own business looking for additional consistent work, or a performance-focused technician who doesn’t necessarily want a traditional full time workshop position.

The Work The role will primarily involve mechanical work associated with our performance and tuning jobs, including:

- Installing upgraded turbochargers
- Intercooler and intercooler piping installations
- Exhaust and performance component installation
- Transmission cooler installations
- Catch can installations
- Intake and snorkel installations
- Fuel system and injector upgrades
- Performance hardware and supporting modifications
- Removing and refitting intake manifolds and associated components
- Carbon-cleaning related mechanical work
- General engine component removal and installation
- Pre-tuning mechanical inspections
- Diagnosing mechanical issues identified during tuning
- General mechanical repairs associated with performance vehicles
- Assisting with larger performance builds and Stage 2 / Stage 3 packages
- Preparing vehicles mechanically for ECU and transmission tuning
- Final inspection and quality control of completed work

Most of our work is on 4WDs, diesel vehicles and performance vehicles, including Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux and LandCruiser, Isuzu D-MAX/MU-X, Mazda BT-50, Nissan Navara/Patrol,



Volkswagen Amarok and similar platforms.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who can be trusted to take a job and complete it properly without needing constant supervision.

Ideally you will have

- Strong mechanical experience
- Experience working on modified or performance vehicles
- Confidence removing and installing turbochargers, intercoolers, exhaust systems and associated components
- Good diagnostic and problem-solving ability
- High attention to detail
- Good understanding of diesel engines and modern 4WD platforms
- Ability to work cleanly and look after customer vehicles
- Ability to follow workshop procedures and specifications
- Your own basic hand tools
- A current driver’s licence
- Australian automotive trade qualification preferred

Experience with diesel performance, 4WD modifications, fabrication, diagnostics or tuning-related mechanical work would be highly regarded. We care more about your ability, workmanship and attitude than simply how many years you’ve been in the trade.

What We Don’t Want

We’re not looking for someone who needs to be constantly checked or reminded how a job should be completed.

Our customers are paying for specialist performance work, so attention to detail matters. Components need to be fitted correctly, wiring and hoses routed properly, fasteners torqued correctly and vehicles returned without damage, rattles, leaks or shortcuts.

If something doesn’t look right, we expect it to be addressed rather than ignored.

Sunshine Coast Diesel Tuning is a specialist performance and tuning workshop based in Warana on the Sunshine Coast.

Our work includes ECU remapping, transmission tuning, dyno testing, diagnostics, performance upgrades and mechanical modification of diesel and performance vehicles.

We operate an AWD Dyno Dynamics chassis dyno and work with professional tuning and diagnostic equipment including Alientech KESS3, Autotuner, Magic Motorsport FLEX, HP Tuners, Autel and VCDS.

This position gives the right person the opportunity to work on interesting vehicles and performance projects rather than spending every day carrying out routine logbook servicing.

We’re open to discussing either:

Part-Time EmploymentA regular arrangement of approximately 2–4 days per week, depending on experience, availability and workload.

SubcontractorSuitable for an experienced mechanic or automotive contractor with their own ABN who wants regular performance installation and mechanical work without taking on the customer acquisition and tuning side of the business.

Hours and days can be discussed with the right applicant.
