Help build the next stage of growth for Festival of Voices!

This is a newly created role for someone who enjoys building relationships, finding opportunities and turning good ideas into meaningful support.

Festival of Voices has grown steadily, and until now, partnerships, sponsorship, fundraising and grant development have been shared across the team, alongside other responsibilities. We’ve reached a point where this work needs dedicated ownership — and that’s where you come in!

You’ll lead the partnerships and development function, building on the relationships and systems we already have while helping shape where we go next.

You’ll work closely with our CEO, Marketing Manager, Artistic Director and the wider team. They’ll bring their own industry knowledge, relationships, ideas and experience, while you bring your expertise in partnerships, fundraising, development or related areas.

A note about the scope of this role The position description for this role is deliberately broad. It describes the potential scope of a partnerships and development function at Festival of Voices, rather than a checklist of everything we expect one person to be an expert in.

We know there may not be a single individual who has done all of this. You might have deep experience in grants and funding, corporate partnerships, fundraising, philanthropy, business development or another related area. You might be particularly strong at building relationships, writing compelling proposals, finding opportunities or turning positive ideas into sustainable partnerships.

We’re interested in what you’re really good at, what you enjoy doing and what you could bring to our team. The role can be shaped around the right person’s strengths and experience while we build and develop the broader function together.

You’ll have ownership of the partnerships and development work, particularly grant writing, sponsorship applications, donor management and developing new opportunities. But you won’t be doing it in isolation.

If you can see yourself bringing something valuable to this role — even if you don’t tick every box in the position description — we want to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing

There will be variety in this role, and you’ll have plenty of opportunity to get out from behind a desk and build relationships.

Depending on your strengths and the needs of the organisation, you might spend part of your week:

- Leading grant and funding applications — researching opportunities, writing submissions, coordinating information from the team and managing acquittals and reporting.
- Building sponsorship and corporate partnerships — identifying potential partners, developing proposals, negotiating advantages and looking after existing relationships.
- Developing fundraising and donor relationships — helping grow individual giving, identifying potential supporters and making sure existing donors feel valued.
- Finding new opportunities — looking for new sources of income,

partnerships and support that fit Festival of Voices and its goals.
- Building relationships — working with the CEO, Board, Artistic Director, Marketing Manager and wider team to develop helpful relationships across business, government, philanthropy and the community.
- Keeping things moving — maintaining funding calendars, CRM records, pipelines, agreements and follow-ups so opportunities and commitments don’t get lost.
- Reporting and communicating — preparing reports for the CEO and Board and making sure funders and partners receive the information and outcomes they need.
- Improving how we work — developing practical templates, processes and systems that make partnerships and development more effective without creating unnecessary bureaucracy.
- Representing Festival of Voices — attending meetings, functions and networking opportunities and being a confident, personable representative of the organisation.

What’s in it for you?

- A chance to build something. This is a new position, so you won’t be walking into a set system that you’re expected to just maintain. You’ll have the opportunity to shape how Festival of Voices approaches partnerships, sponsorship, fundraising and development.
- Ownership. You’ll have a clear area of responsibility and the opportunity to see the results of your work — from a successful grant application to a new corporate partnership or a supporter who stays connected to the festival for years.
- A good team around you. You’ll be joining a small, experienced team with people who know the festival, the arts and events sector, Tasmania and the realities of delivering a big festival with a relatively small team.
- Collaboration without having to do everything yourself. You’ll lead your area, but you’ll have access to the knowledge, relationships and ideas of the people around you. We expect everyone to contribute, ask questions and share what they know.
- Flexibility. This is a 0.6 FTE role, with flexibility around festival activities, stakeholder meetings and events. We’re open to discussing hybrid working arrangements.
- A meaningful purpose. At its heart, Festival of Voices is about bringing people together through singing and music. We believe strongly in the connection, joy, health and wellbeing that can come from singing together, and the role you play here will help make that possible.

Who we are

Festival of Voices is Tasmania’s 10-day winter festival of singing and music. We’re a small not-for-profit organisation that produces a surprisingly big festival, with a combination of professional artists, community participation, free events, ticketed performances, regional activity and partnerships across Tasmania.

We’ve worked hard over recent years to build sustainable year-on-year growth. That growth is what has allowed us to create this dedicated role.

We’re also a team that tends to look for lean,

practical and sometimes slightly unconventional ways to get things done. We don’t have a huge staff or unlimited resources, so we rely on positive ideas, strong relationships, people who take ownership and people who are willing to work things out together.

You’ll be joining us at an exciting point in the festival’s development, as we build towards the 2027 Festival of Voices program — the first full program led by our Artistic Director, Shaun Rennie.

We are formally recognised through the Tasmanian Government Employer of Choice Program and hold Rainbow Tasmania Accreditation.

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who can take ownership of this area of the organisation and build strong, genuine relationships.

You’ll ideally bring experience in some combination of:

- Partnerships, sponsorship, fundraising, development or business development
- Grant writing and funding applications
- Building and managing stakeholder relationships
- Writing proposals, business cases or partnership documents
- Managing a pipeline of opportunities and relationships
- Reporting, acquittals and funding or sponsorship obligations
- Using CRM, databases or other systems to keep relationships and opportunities organised
- Working independently, managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines
- Identifying opportunities and working out how they could benefit the organisation
- Communicating confidently and professionally, both verbally and in writing.

Just as importantly, we’re looking for someone curious, organised, personable, thoughtful and comfortable taking initiative.

You’ll need to be able to work independently, but also know when to ask a question, involve someone else or draw on the knowledge of the wider team.

Experience in the arts, festivals, events, tourism or not-for-profit sector would be useful, as would experience with corporate partnerships, philanthropy, donor stewardship or fundraising campaigns. Knowledge of Tasmania’s business, government, philanthropic, tourism, health, education or community sectors would also be valuable.

But these are not intended to create another checklist. Most importantly, we want to get a sense of who you are. Tell us about your strengths, what you’re good at, what you enjoy doing and why you think this role and Festival of Voices could be a good fit for you.

Why Festival of Voices?

We care about doing good work, but we also care about how we work together.

Our team is small and passionate. We work with artists, performers, choirs, volunteers, venues, businesses, community organisations, government and many others to make the festival happen.

Our values are:

- Accessibility
- Authenticity
- Collaboration
- Excellence
- Sustainability

Our greatest goal is simple: connecting people through the strength and power of music and singing together.

If that sounds like something you’d like to help us build, we’d love to hear from you.

Please send

- A cover letter addressing the selection criteria (maximum two pages)
