If you’re someone who enjoys getting to the heart of a problem, uses sound judgement to guide your decisions, and wants to help a community grow in the right way then this is the role for you.
The City of Armadale is one of WA’s fastest growing local governments and with that growth comes opportunity. We’re looking for a Planning Compliance Officer to help ensure development across the City is safe, compliant and aligned with our planning framework.
In this role, you’ll move between investigation, communication and collaboration. One moment you’ll be piecing together the details of a compliance matter; the next, you’ll be guiding someone through a planning issue or working with colleagues to resolve a concern. From rural properties to recent estates, established suburbs to heritage areas, you’ll work across a diverse range of matters. If you’re energised by variety and motivated by community impact, you’ll thrive here.
About the Role
You’ll help people understand and follow the City’s planning rules, providing guidance when things need clarification or correction. You’ll manage planning compliance matters from start to finish, ensuring issues are resolved fairly, consistently and in line with legislation.
You will
Investigate planning compliance issues and respond to complaints
Undertake site inspections and interviews
Prepare clear, professional correspondence, reports and briefs
Issue infringements and assist with prosecutions where required
Work closely with internal teams, other agencies and the community
Provide practical, informed advice on planning compliance matters
Your work helps shape places people are proud to call home, supports safe development and strengthens trust in the planning system.
About You
You don’t need to come from a traditional planning background, we welcome people with transferable experience in compliance,
investigation or enforcement-style roles.
To this role, you’ll bring:
- Experience in a compliance, investigation or regulatory environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to interpret and apply legislation in real world situations
- A calm, professional approach when engaging with the community
- Confidence working independently while collaborating across teams and agencies
- Sound judgement and a steady, solutions focused mindset
- A current C Class Driver’s Licence (or the ability to obtain one)
- White card (or the ability to obtain one)
What it is Like Working Here We are a values led organisation guided by our belief that we:
- Care
- Are Better, Together
- Learn & Grow

You’ll be joining a team that looks after each other, listens openly, and works together to make responsible, community focused decisions.
