Mount Barker District Council is seeking an experienced Principal Traffic & Transport Engineer to provide strategic leadership, technical expertise and professional oversight across transport planning, traffic engineering and road safety.

About You The Principal Traffic & Transport Engineer will lead the implementation and review of Council’s Integrated Transport Plan, providing expert advice across transport planning, traffic engineering and road safety. The role will develop sustainable and evidence-based transport solutions, managing complex projects and stakeholder relationships, and ensuring transport infrastructure supports the Council's vision for a protected, accessible, connected and growing community. The position will review and endorse transport studies, traffic assessments, designs and technical reports, champion the Safe System approach and continuous improvement in road safety, and provide technical leadership and mentoring across Council.

Strong relationships will be developed with government, industry, community and internal stakeholders, supported by high-quality reports, briefings and recommendations to management and Council.

You Will Bring

You will bring extensive experience in transport planning and traffic engineering, together with strong technical knowledge across road safety, car parking,



active transport and road network management. You will have highly developed analytical, strategic and problem-solving skills, supported by excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to explain technical matters to diverse audiences. Your experience will include managing projects, consultants and stakeholder relationships, preparing technical reports, strategies and recommendations, and engaging with stakeholders to translate technical concepts into practical planning outcomes.

You will be cooperative, self-directed and proactive, with the initiative and professional judgement to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

- Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering or a relevant discipline, or equivalent extensive and relevant experience.
