Help shape the projects that shape our City
Good infrastructure starts with good decisions. Understanding what is needed, testing the options and resolving the detail before construction begins.
At the City of Armadale, you’ll help make those decisions. As one of Western Australia’s fastest-growing local governments, we’re planning new infrastructure while improving and renewing the assets our community already relies on.
We’re looking for a Project Planning Engineer who brings practical judgement, asks good questions and takes pride in preparing projects properly.
If you’re enjoying your current role but would welcome the opportunity to influence a growing City’s infrastructure, this could be your next move.
Why Armadale?
Our Strategic Community Plan sets a transparent direction: facilities that meet community needs, better public places, and infrastructure that is functional, inclusive and sustainable.
You’ll help turn those priorities into practical projects, balancing technical requirements, cost, risk and long-term asset performance. Across renewal, upgrade and growth projects, you’ll tackle varied challenges and see how your work contributes to the community.
You’ll also have flexibility in how you work, including working from home and the ability to accrue flexi-time to work a nine-day fortnight, with arrangements agreed around role and team requirements.
Your role
Working in our Asset Planning team,
reporting to the Project Planning Lead, you’ll progress identified infrastructure priorities into well-defined, costed and approved capital projects ready for delivery.
Starting with Project Initiation Documents developed by Strategic Asset Management, you’ll coordinate investigations and detailed designs, refine cost estimates and progress the approvals needed for capital works program entry.
You’ll work with engineering and landscape design specialists, consultants, asset operators and delivery teams to:
- Develop clear project scopes, specifications and budget requirements.
- Coordinate investigations, technical advice and detailed design activities.
- Prepare and refine cost estimates, checking assumptions, contingencies and constructability.
- Progress approvals, utility clearances, statutory consents and other project requirements.
- Prepare complete project packages for review under the City’s Project Management Framework.
- Resolve risks and gaps early, considering procurement, construction sequencing and handover requirements.
Your work will help the City make informed investment decisions and give delivery teams confidence in each project’s scope, cost and readiness.
What you’ll bring
You know what it takes to prepare an infrastructure project for delivery. You can work through technical detail, challenge assumptions constructively and bring the right people together to resolve issues.
We’re looking for
- Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Project Management,
Construction Management or a closely related discipline**, or equivalent demonstrated experience in project planning and infrastructure development.
- Experience planning civil infrastructure or construction projects.
- Sound knowledge of cost estimation, contingency allowances and key cost drivers.
- The ability to coordinate technical input across disciplines and progress third-party approvals.
- Familiarity with project management frameworks and project approval requirements.
Flexibility and benefits
- Working-from-home arrangements and flexi-time, including the ability to accrue time towards a nine-day fortnight.
- Superannuation contributions of up to 15%, subject to employee contributions and applicable conditions.
- Free Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre membership**, including the gym, pools, sauna and group fitness classes.
- Wellbeing activities throughout the year.
- Novated leasing opportunities.
