Port Augusta
Are you someone who can think on your feet, take responsibility and genuinely enjoys helping people?
MADEC is looking for a Casual Regional Liaison Officer to support workers participating in the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme in Port Augusta.
You'll be a trusted local contact for workers who have travelled from Pacific Island nations to live and work in Australia, helping them navigate everyday challenges, access essential services and feel supported within their community.
This is a hands-on role that calls for both empathy and initiative. While much of your work involves building relationships and providing practical support, you'll also need to respond confidently when unexpected situations arise, assess priorities and take appropriate action.
What you'll be doing
- Building positive, trusted relationships with PALM Scheme workers
- Providing pastoral care, practical assistance and wellbeing support
- Assisting with medical appointments, transport and accommodation needs
- Helping workers connect with local services and community activities
- Supporting workers with workplace and personal matters
- Assisting with worker arrivals, inductions and departures
- Conducting regular worker check-ins and accommodation inspections
- Responding promptly to emerging worker needs, assessing urgency and prioritising appropriate action
- Exercising sound judgement when navigating unexpected situations, knowing when to act independently and when to escalate
- Maintaining accurate records, completing incident reports and communicating with MADEC's administration and support teams
- Supporting worker safety requirements and escalating wellbeing or workplace concerns
Who we're looking for You don't necessarily need a background in community services. We're looking for someone who is dependable, resourceful and confident taking responsibility,
particularly when situations don't go to plan.
You'll bring
- A robust sense of urgency and accountability, with the ability to recognise what needs immediate attention
- Sound judgement and practical problem-solving skills
- The confidence to make decisions when there isn't an obvious or straightforward answer
- Flexibility to adapt and reprioritise when worker or operational needs change
- A proactive approach and willingness to take ownership of issues through to resolution
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Good administrative and computer skills, including accurate and timely reporting
- Empathy, cultural awareness and confidence working with people from diverse backgrounds
- Strong local knowledge and the ability to work independently
Experience in community services, health, education, employment services, multicultural support or another people-focused workplace would be highly regarded.
The important details
This is a casual position, with hours varying according to worker and operational needs.
Some availability outside standard business hours will be required for worker arrivals, emergencies and time-sensitive support.
We're particularly interested in applicants who are based locally in Port Augusta and can provide prompt, face-to-face assistance when required.
You'll also need a current driver's licence and a National Police Check (or willingness to obtain).
Why join MADEC?
You'll have the opportunity to do meaningful work, build genuine relationships and help workers feel safe, connected and supported while living and working in Australia.
If you're someone who can balance genuine care for people with the judgement, initiative and accountability to act when challenges arise, we'd love to hear from you.
Apply today and make a meaningful difference in your local community.
