About Atomic Projects
Atomic Projects is a Sydney remedial builder — balconies, façades, waterproofing and concrete repairs across the metro. Concrete remediation is core scope for us, done to method statements with engineer sign-off at every hold point, not patch-and-paint. We've got a steady forecast of landmark strata, balcony, façade and capital-works jobs across Sydney, so the work is consistent — not stop-start.
About the Role
You'll run the concrete repair scope on projects across Sydney: concrete demolition and preparation, breaking out spalled concrete (concrete cancer), treating corroded reinforcement, reinstating with specified repair mortars, injecting cracks, and applying protective coatings. Attention to detail is a must — the repairs you can't see in two years are the ones that count, and every repair is inspected before it's closed up.
This is a specialist seat — roughly half demolition, half chemistry. You need to hear where the concrete has let go, chase the break-out back past the corrosion so the mortar can encase the bar, and get the steel genuinely clean before anything is reinstated. We're taking on good people across levels — strong concrete hands, tradespeople, and leading hands ready to run a front. Tell us what you're good at and we'll pitch you at the right level and rate.
You'll work from scaffold, swing stage and EWP per SWMS, direct a labourer on break-out and prep, and keep your own QA evidence as the work goes down. You report to the Leading Hand / Foreman, and engineer inspection hold points are called up through the site leader.
Key Responsibilities
- Concrete demolition and preparation — controlled break-out and demolition of damaged, defective and spalled concrete, and preparing substrates (grinding, scabbling, cleaning) ready for repair and coating
- Spalling (concrete cancer) repairs — break out to sound concrete past the corrosion, expose and clean reinforcement
- Steel treatment — wire-wheel back to bright steel, prime and passivate, install anodes where specified
- Reinstatement with specified repair mortars — hand-applied and flowable — mixed and placed to manufacturer datasheets
- Crack injection — epoxy and polyurethane systems:
port set-out, pressure injection, finish
- Protective coatings — anti-carbonation and waterproof coatings: surface prep, coverage rates, wet-film thickness checks, recoat windows
- Hold engineer inspection points — nothing reinstated before sign-off; hold the repair open and escalate rather than closing up
- QA records — batch numbers, mix ratios, coverage and staged photos logged on Connecteam as you go
- Substrate testing assist — cover-meter, drummy survey, mark-outs
- Work safely from scaffold, swing stage and EWP per SWMS, and keep an occupied building clean, contained and presentable
Skills/Requirements
Required
- Proven concrete repair / remedial experience — formal trade qualifications or a solid track record
- Attention to detail — this is the whole job
- Construction Induction (White Card) and the right to work in Australia
- Can read a manufacturer datasheet and hit mix ratios and coverage rates every time
- Own tools, current driver's licence, and your own transport — our sites move around Sydney
- Clean-shaven or willing to comply with silica dust / RPE fit-test requirements
- Qualified and tidy working in occupied residential buildings
Desirable (not essential):
- Experience in concrete repair, crack injection, waterproofing and formwork looked on favourably
- Sika, Parchem or MAPEI manufacturer accreditations (we fund these if you don't have them)
- Working at Heights and EWP tickets, swing stage experience
- Marine / façade spalling, or car park and basement remediation
What's On Offer
- $41–$50/hr casual, all-in — above award, negotiated on experience
- Weekly pay (Thursday-to-Wednesday cycle)
- A steady forecast of landmark Sydney projects — consistent work, not a wet fortnight and then nothing
- Manufacturer accreditations funded — Sika, Parchem,
MAPEI — booked and kept current
- Tool allowance, plus travel allowance with own transport, and first-aid allowance if you're the designated officer
- Further tickets funded after probation
- Daily hire or permanent — trial period with a view to permanent for the right person
- Real method statements and manufacturer-backed systems, engineer hold points, and a culture that backs you to say no and hold a repair open — no shortcut culture
- Clear progression: Tradesperson → Leading Hand → Foreman
How to Apply Email your CV to
[email protected] with the subject line "Concrete Protection Specialist – [the suburb you live in]". Tell us what you're good at: how many years on concrete repair and remedial work (as opposed to new pours), which of these you've done yourself — break-out and steel prep, crack injection, protective coatings — and which manufacturer systems you've used. No cover letter needed. We reply to everyone.
Pay: $41.00 – $50.00 per hour
Application Question(s)
- How many years of hands-on concrete repair or remedial work have you done?
- Which of these have you done yourself on site? Breaking out spalled concrete back to sound substrate; cleaning and priming corroded reinforcement and installing anodes; reinstating with repair mortars to a manufacturer datasheet; epoxy or polyurethane crack injection; anti-carbonation or protective coatings.
- Are you able to travel reliably to sites across the Sydney metropolitan area, with your own tools and a driver's licence?
- This role involves working at heights from scaffold, swing stage and EWP, and lifting and carrying materials and tools. Are you able to perform these duties, with or without reasonable adjustment?
- What is your notice period, or the earliest date you could start?
- You break out a spall on a balcony soffit and find the reinforcement badly corroded. How do you decide how far to keep breaking out around that bar, and what do you do before you reinstate?
