About the Department The role of the Department of Education is to support Victorians to build prosperous, socially engaged, happy and healthy lives. It does this by supporting lifelong learning and healthy development, strengthening families and helping to equip people with the skills and knowledge for the future of the economy and society.
About the Branch The Information Management Branch oversees how data is collected, organised, distributed, and utilised across schools, early childhood education, corporate offices, and the Department. Focus areas include the Data Governance Council and custodianship model, ensuring accountability and stewardship of data; advanced analytics; Business Intelligence (BI); Artificial Intelligence (AI), Master Data Management (MDM) for data integrity; and the use of data warehousing for effective data organisation. By collaborating with stakeholders, initiatives are aligned with departmental goals, fostering data-driven decision-making to improve educational and wellbeing outcomes for children and students.
About the Role
This role supports the department's effective use of data governance, data analytics, and emerging technologies, including AI, to strengthen decision-making, service delivery, and outcomes across the Department of Education.
The role also contributes to strategic planning, policy development and governance by preparing briefs, discussion papers, and advice to inform decision-making, and supports the department's broader data and emerging technology priorities through stakeholder engagement and communication activities with diverse audiences.
About you To be successful in this role you will have:
- Demonstrated understanding of data governance, data analytics, and emerging technologies, including AI, and the ability to apply this knowledge in practical organisational or policy contexts.
- Experience providing high-level technical, strategic or policy advice across complex issues involving data, analytics, governance, or digital and emerging technology initiatives.
- Strong project planning,
coordination and delivery skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and contribute to the implementation of governance, data, analytics, and emerging technology initiatives.
- Well-developed written communication skills, with experience preparing briefs, discussion papers, reports, and other materials to support strategic planning, policy development, and governance processes.
- Robust verbal communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across technical, policy and business areas and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with experience researching issues, interpreting information, evaluating options, and providing clear advice to support decision-making.
Sound judgement, initiative and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify emerging issues, respond appropriately, and contribute to continuous improvement and organisational outcomes.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
As our ideal candidate, you will have:
- Relevant qualifications or demonstrated experience in data governance, data and analytics, information systems, technology, or a related field.
- Experience supporting or delivering work related to data governance, data analytics, reporting, information management, or emerging technologies such as AI.
- Experience preparing high-quality written products, including briefs, discussion papers, reports, governance papers, strategic advice, or policy and implementation documentation.
- Experience coordinating or delivering projects and initiatives across technical, governance, policy, or business contexts.
- Experience engaging with stakeholders across diverse business and technical areas to support communication, collaboration, and delivery of priority initiatives.
Experience working in government, the public sector, or other complex and regulated environments is desirable.
