Albury
Senior / Experienced Veterinary Nurse
Immediate Start Available
Albury Animal Hospital | Albury, NSW
Are you an experienced veterinary nurse who takes pride in exceptional patient care and loves helping others become great nurses?
Immediate start available for the right candidate! Albury Animal Hospital is looking for a skilled, confident and motivated Senior Veterinary Nurse to join our team.
We're not simply looking for someone who has been nursing for a number of years. We're looking for someone who has developed the clinical knowledge, practical skills and professional confidence to work independently across all areas of veterinary nursing — and who is ready to use that experience to make a genuine difference to the wider team.
This is an opportunity for an experienced nurse to become a pivotal member of our hospital, delivering exceptional patient care while helping to mentor, guide and develop our junior nursing team.
About the Role
As an experienced veterinary nurse, you will be expected to confidently and independently manage the nursing responsibilities associated with:
- Consultation Nursing: Supporting veterinarians through efficient team consulting, client communication, patient handling, preventative healthcare and appropriate nursing procedures.
- Medical and Inpatient Nursing: Independently managing hospitalised patients, monitoring and assessing clinical progress, administering prescribed treatments, recognising changes in patient condition and ensuring excellent standards of patient care.
- Surgical and Anaesthetic Nursing: Confidently undertaking anaesthetic preparation, induction assistance, monitoring, recovery, surgical nursing and perioperative patient care.
- Clinical Standards: Maintaining consistently high standards of nursing care, accurate clinical records, hospital protocols, infection control and patient safety.
We expect our senior nurses to have the experience and clinical judgement to undertake these responsibilities without routine supervision, while recognising when veterinary input,
collaboration or escalation is required.
More Than Just a Clinical Nursing Role
Once you've settled into our hospital, your contribution will extend beyond your own patients and daily nursing responsibilities. We want you to help raise the standard of the entire nursing team.
You'll play an important role in supporting the professional development of our junior nurses by:
- Leading by example through your clinical skills, work ethic, professionalism and attitude.
- Providing practical, hands-on mentoring and guidance during everyday hospital activities.
- Sharing your knowledge and explaining not just how to do something, but why it matters.
- Helping junior nurses develop their confidence, clinical judgement and independence.
- Encouraging accountability, initiative and pride in delivering excellent patient care.
- Providing constructive feedback and reinforcing consistent nursing standards.
We believe excellent senior nurses don't just deliver excellent care themselves — they help create other excellent nurses.
Who We're Looking For
Our ideal candidate will:
- Hold a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Have substantial practical experience in a busy small animal veterinary hospital.
- Be clinically competent and confident across consultation, medical, inpatient, surgical and anaesthetic nursing.
- Be comfortable independently organising and prioritising their workload.
- Demonstrate robust clinical judgement, initiative and attention to detail.
- Have excellent communication skills with both clients and colleagues.
- Be patient,
approachable and genuinely interested in mentoring less experienced nurses.
- Take pride in maintaining high standards and contributing positively to the hospital culture.
- Be someone others naturally look to for guidance, support and clinical knowledge.
Most importantly, we're looking for someone who combines clinical excellence with the ability to bring out the best in others. This position is suited to an already accomplished veterinary nurse, rather than someone seeking to develop the foundational clinical skills required to become a senior nurse.
Why Join Albury Animal Hospital?
At Albury Animal Hospital, we are passionate about providing high-quality veterinary care and continually developing the skills and capabilities of our team. We recognise the important contribution experienced veterinary nurses make to patient outcomes, client experience and the professional growth of their colleagues.
We offer an setting where:
- Your clinical experience and expertise will be genuinely valued.
- You'll have the opportunity to work independently and use your full range of nursing skills.
- You can make a meaningful contribution to patient care and hospital standards.
- You'll play an important role in mentoring and developing the next generation of veterinary nurses.
- Your initiative, professionalism and commitment to excellence will be recognised.
This is a hands-on senior clinical nursing position with mentoring responsibilities, rather than a purely administrative or management role.
Ready to Make a Difference?
If you're an experienced veterinary nurse who is confident in your clinical abilities, takes pride in exceptional patient care and enjoys helping others grow, we'd love to hear from you. Immediate start available for the right candidate.
