About the Role

IINGEN is seeking an experienced Senior High Voltage Design Engineer to lead the delivery of HV infrastructure projects across utility, industrial, commercial, renewable energy and mission-critical facilities.

You will provide technical leadership in the design, coordination and delivery of HV systems, including substations, transmission and distribution networks, power system studies, earthing systems, protection systems and network connections.

The role requires a strong understanding of Australian utility requirements, power system engineering principles and multidisciplinary project delivery environments.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the design of HV substations from 11kV to 132kV+
- Develop primary and secondary substation designs
- Prepare single line diagrams (SLDs), protection and control schematics, interlocking philosophies, earthing designs, cable schedules, equipment specifications, substation layouts and cable route designs
- Manage utility approval processes
- Coordinate with DNSPs, TNSPs, contractors, clients and OEMs
- Review vendor documentation and factory acceptance tests
- Support commissioning and energisation planning
- Mentor junior engineers and designers

Skills and Experience

- 10+ years of HV substation design experience
- Experience delivering major infrastructure, transport, data centre, renewable energy, utility, mining, industrial or defence projects
- Proven delivery of substations from concept through to detailed design and commissioning support
- Experience with private network and utility-connected assets

Technical Expertise

- Primary systems: power transformers, GIS and AIS switchgear, HV cable systems, busbar design, reactive power systems and harmonic filtering systems
- Secondary systems:



protection systems, SCADA, communications, IEC 61850, metering systems and control systems
- Power system studies: load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash and harmonic studies (dynamic studies desirable)

Software

- Essential: DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, AutoCAD, Revit and Microsoft Office
- Highly desirable: PSCAD, PSS®E, CYMCAP, CDEGS, SafeGrid, SKM Power Tools, EasyPower, Navisworks and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)

Strong Standards Knowledge of:

- AS 2067, AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3008, AS 7000 and AS 3010
- IEC 61850 and the IEC 62271 series
- Utility standards and guidelines
- National Electricity Rules and AEMO requirements

Qualifications

- Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
- CPEng (preferred)
- RPEQ (desirable)
- NER registration (desirable)

- Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Rail and transport infrastructure
- Tunnels and major road projects
- Water treatment infrastructure
- Large commercial developments
- Utility connection works exceeding 10MVA
