Your new role
Are you experienced accounting professional with a passion for financial reporting and analysis?
Rockhampton Regional Council is seeking a Senior Management Accounting to join the Finance team. Reporting to the Management Accounting and Treasury Supervisor, you will provide specialist accounting support, lead statutory reporting and budget activities, and deliver expert financial advice across the organisation.
Working closely with managers and stakeholders, you will undertake financial analysis, support audit and compliance requirements, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and help drive informed decision-making through accurate and timely financial reporting.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated accounting professional looking to apply their technical expertise in a collaborative and dynamic environment.
This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).
What we are looking for
- Degree qualification in Accounting (or related discipline) with relevant accounting experience.
- Extensive knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, statutory reporting and financial management principles.
- Proven experience in budgeting, financial analysis, reporting and financial performance monitoring.
- Highly developed analytical, problem-solving and financial reporting skills, including preparation of financial statements and audit documentation.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to provide professional financial advice and support.
- Advanced Excel and financial systems skills (preferably TechnologyOne), with the ability to mentor team members and contribute to a high-performing team

- Demonstrated experience preparing financial statements, statutory reporting, budgets and financial analysis in a large organisation.
- Extensive knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, financial legislation and accounting best practices, with the ability to provide specialist advice.
- Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues, interpret financial data and provide recommendations.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, communication and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, support continuous improvement and mentor less experienced.
