The Role We’re looking for an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to support the sustainment of a Defence capability in Melbourne. You’ll oversee technical investigations and technical instructions for systems, act as a design acceptance representative, and lead considerable upgrade projects on behalf of the client.

You’ll work within a multidisciplinary team on engineering change and configuration management for mechanical systems, and mentor other team members, including graduates. The role is part-time.

Key Responsibilities

- Undertake and oversee the development of technical investigations and technical instructions for systems, including verification and validation of technical data
- Work within a multidisciplinary team to develop design requirements for engineering change and configuration management of mechanical systems
- Act as a design acceptance representative, taking part in engineering design reviews and developing engineering support reports




- Lead considerable upgrade projects on behalf of the client
- Work within the requirements of the engineering organisation and the contractor’s engineering management plan
- Assist with preparing and reviewing work instructions and maintenance schedules
- Produce engineering reports and design contract documents to a high standard, within certification standards and established industry practice
- Provide guidance and mentorship to team members, including graduates, as required

Required

- Relevant higher degree qualification or 8+ years’ experience in a relevant industry
- Experience developing technical investigations, technical instructions and design requirements for mechanical systems
- Experience in engineering change management and configuration management
- Experience acting as a design acceptance representative and taking part in engineering design reviews
- Experience leading upgrade projects
- Experience working within certification standards and established industry practice
- Experience preparing or reviewing work instructions and maintenance schedules
- Demonstrated experience on Defence acquisition and sustainment activities within the Capability Life Cycle setting




- Ability to take full responsibility for allocated technical and project objectives

Salary $155,000 - $160,000 (Package incl. Super), pro rata for the duration of this engagement

- Location: Victoria Barracks, Melbourne, VIC
- Part-time role (0.4 FTE, approximately 2 days per week)
