About the role
National Criminal Lawyers® is seeking a highly organised, motivated and dependable Legal Administrative Assistant / Paralegal to join our busy criminal defence practice at our Bella Vista office.
This is an important, hands-on role providing direct administrative and paralegal support to the Principal Lawyer and legal team.
The successful applicant will be responsible for assisting with the efficient day-to-day operation of the practice, managing competing priorities, coordinating legal matters and ensuring that administrative tasks are completed accurately and within required timeframes.
We are particularly interested in someone who demonstrates initiative, takes ownership of their responsibilities and can work confidently and independently in a fast-paced professional environment.
Key responsibilities
- Managing incoming telephone calls, emails and client enquiries professionally and efficiently.
- Maintaining electronic client files, legal records and document management systems.
- Preparing, formatting and proofreading legal correspondence, court documents and client update letters.
- Managing court diaries, appointments, deadlines and important filing dates.
- Liaising with clients, courts, barristers, police prosecutors and other relevant stakeholders.
- Assisting solicitors with the preparation of briefs of evidence, submissions, court documents and other legal materials.
- Coordinating counsel briefs, court listings, conferences and other legal appointments.
- Opening and maintaining client matters, including administrative and billing-related tasks.
- Following up outstanding documents, client instructions and correspondence in a timely manner.
- Monitoring outstanding administrative tasks and ensuring matters are progressed efficiently.
- Providing general administrative and operational support to the Principal Lawyer and legal team.

- Strong computer literacy, particularly Microsoft Word, Outlook and electronic document management systems.

- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision while contributing positively to a team.
- A high level of discretion and respect for client confidentiality.
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach and willingness to take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
- Reliability, punctuality and a genuine commitment to maintaining high professional standards.
Previous experience in a legal administrative or paralegal role will be highly regarded, particularly within criminal law. However,
applicants with exceptional administrative experience, strong transferable skills and a willingness to learn are also encouraged to apply.

Position details
Location: Bella Vista, NSW
Employment: Full-time, office-based
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am–5:00 pm
