About the role

We are seeking a passionate, confident and proactive educator to join our team. This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who is enthusiastic about outdoor education and understands the value of safe, supported high-risk play. Experience facilitating activities such as working with tools, whittling, making fires and exploring natural environments would be highly regarded.

Key responsibilities

- Support children's learning, development and wellbeing through outdoor experience

- Facilitate engaging bush kindy and nature-based activities

- Encourage children to assess risk, solve problems and develop resilience

- Support safe and responsible use of tools and equipment

- Assist children to participate in whittling, fire making and other practical outdoor experiences

- Use agreed communication signals to support group safety and supervision

- Create an inclusive environment where every child feels capable, connected and valued

- Observe, document and contribute to children's learning

- Build positive relationships with children, families and colleagues

- Follow all health, safety, child protection and risk-management procedures

We are looking for someone who is hands-on, adaptable and willing to get involved - someone who can confidently support children as they climb, build, create, investigate and learn through the natural world.

About you





To be successful in this position you will bring relevant contemporary skills and experience including:

- A Certificate III or Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care

- A genuine passion for outdoor education and nature-based learning

- Previous bush kindy or outdoor education experience, highly regarded

- An understanding of high-risk play and how to manage risk appropriately

- Confidence supporting children with tools, whittling, fire making and outdoor skills or willingness to learn

- A confident, positive and proactive approach

- Robust communication and teamwork skills

- A commitment to children's safety, wellbeing and development

- A valid Working with Children Check

About us

The River School ECC provides a Creek Kindy in a nature-based Early Learning Environment where children are encouraged to explore, connect and learn through meaningful outdoor experiences, and build relationship with the environment around them. We are attached to an independent Primary School situated on acreage rainforest in Maleny with the access to a beautiful creek which is where majority of our learning takes place. Our program embraces outdoor education and bush kindy experiences, supporting children's confidence, independence, curiosity and connection with nature.
