About Saige Ultrasound

Saige Ultrasound is a specialist women’s imaging practice and part of the Saige Health & Wellness family. We provide high-quality obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound in a calm, unhurried and personal setting. We believe how a patient feels during and after a scan matters as much as the images. Every patient should feel heard, informed and cared for, whether they’re coming in for an exciting milestone or facing difficult news.

We’re opening a satellite clinic in Port Macquarie and are looking for a skilled, compassionate sonographer to bring the Saige approach to the community.

The role

The position starts at one day per week, with real potential to grow as the clinic expands. You’ll often be the sole sonographer on site, with remote support from the broader Saige team and our reporting specialists. It’s ideal for an experienced sonographer looking for additional work, or anyone wanting a meaningful part-time role with room to develop.

Key responsibilities

Women’s health ultrasound, including:

- Early pregnancy and dating scans, including assessment of pregnancy location and viability

- 12–13 week 1st trimester anatomy scan and first-trimester screening

- 18–22 week morphology scans

- Third-trimester growth and wellbeing scans, including umbilical artery, MCA and uterine artery Doppler assessment and amniotic fluid assessment

- Pelvic and gynaecological ultrasound (transabdominal and transvaginal)

- Endometriosis ultrasound following IDEA consensus principles (training provided)

Preparing studies for reporting:

- Acquiring complete, high-quality image sets in line with Saige protocols and ASUM/ISUOG guidelines

- Taking accurate biometry and Doppler measurements and plotting them against practice reference charts

- Writing clear, thorough worksheets that flag significant findings

- Communicating promptly with reporting doctors, especially about urgent or unexpected findings

- Ensuring accurate patient identification, documentation and image archiving

Delivering the Saige patient experience:

- Greeting every patient warmly and explaining each step of the scan

- Using informed consent and trauma-aware practice,



particularly for transvaginal examinations

- Creating a calm, private and respectful environment that considers cultural, emotional and personal needs

- Supporting patients and their families through emotional moments with compassion and professionalism

- Following escalation pathways for urgent findings and linking patients with appropriate follow-up care

Clinic and professional responsibilities:

- Following infection control, equipment care and WHS practices

- Taking part in quality assurance, audit and peer review

- Maintaining ASAR accreditation and CPD

What we’re looking for

Essential:

- ASAR accreditation as a Medical Sonographer

- First Aid certification 9Current)

- Robust, independent O&G; scanning experience, including morphology and transvaginal scanning

- Confidence with obstetric Doppler assessment

Desirable:

- FMF NT and Maternal doppler accreditation, or willingness to obtain it

- Experience or interest in endometriosis imaging

Working independently in a complex clinical environment:

- Confidence working as the sole sonographer on site, with sound judgement about when to escalate

- Ability to manage a varied list and adapt when things don’t go to plan, without compromising quality

- Strong problem-solving skills for challenging scans, such as difficult body habitus, fetal position, limited access, equipment issues or unexpected presentations

- Ability to tailor technique and protocol to the clinical question and recognise when a study needs extending

Managing unexpected findings and emotive situations:

- Experience handling significant findings, such as pregnancy loss, ectopic pregnancy, fetal anomalies or suspicious gynaecological findings, calmly and sensitively





- A clear understanding of professional scope when responding to distressed patients while findings are communicated through the reporting doctor

- Composure, emotional intelligence and the ability to stay present and supportive under pressure

- Self-awareness and resilience, including knowing when to debrief and use available support

Compassion and patient focus:

- Genuine warmth, empathy and respect for every patient

- Clear, kind communication adapted to each patient’s understanding, anxiety and circumstances

- Commitment to dignity, privacy, informed consent and culturally safe care

Professional attributes:

- High attention to detail in imaging, measurement and documentation

- Reliability and professionalism, especially in a satellite setting

- A collaborative attitude and commitment to ongoing learning

What we offer

- $75–$85 per hour, depending on skills and experience

- Hands-on, colleague-led training in endometriosis ultrasound, with support for formal education in advanced endometriosis imaging if you want it

- Increasing hours as the Port Macquarie clinic grows, and career development in specialist women’s imaging if desired
