Workshop Leading Hand – Crane & Heavy Equipment

Kewdale, Perth WA
Full-Time | Workshop Based

Ready to Step Up and Lead a Workshop Team?

Redline Cranes is looking for an experienced Workshop Leading Hand to join our growing crane service team in Kewdale.

We are looking for someone who knows their way around a mechanical workshop, can lead a team, keep jobs moving and still enjoys being involved on the tools.

This is not a desk-based supervisor role.

You will be working alongside our mechanics and apprentices, helping with difficult repairs and diagnostics, organising workshop jobs and making sure the standard of work leaving the workshop is where it needs to be.

If you're currently a Senior Mechanic, Leading Hand, Workshop Supervisor or the person everyone already comes to when they need help, we'd like to hear from you.

We Are Not Your Standard Run-of-the-Mill Workshop

Redline is much more than a servicing and repair workshop.

We take on work that many workshops would normally send somewhere else.

Our team is involved in:

- Engine rebuilds

- Gearbox and transmission rebuilds

- Hydraulic cylinder rebuilds

- Auto electrical diagnostics and repairs

- Electrical and electronic fault finding

- Circuit board repairs

- Hydraulic repairs and system diagnostics

- Line boring and machining repairs

- Welding and fabrication

- Structural crane repairs

- Designing and building prototype parts and components

- Developing our own replacement and upgraded crane components

- Major crane rebuilds and refurbishments

- Building and developing electric EV crane projects

- Developing our own crane designs and concepts

We like solving problems, repairing components properly and building solutions in-house rather than simply replacing everything with a new part.

For the right Leading Hand, this means you will be exposed to far more than routine mechanical servicing.

You will have the opportunity to work with mechanics, auto electricians, fabricators and other trades across a wide range of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and engineering projects.

What You'll Be Working On

Redline Cranes specialises in crane maintenance, repairs, major inspections, rebuilds and refurbishment.

Our workshop works across:

- Franna Pick & Carry cranes

- All Terrain cranes

- Rough Terrain cranes

- Crawler and mini crawler cranes

- Heavy mechanical equipment

- Major inspections and crane rebuilds

- Hydraulic, electrical and mechanical diagnostics

- Structural and accident repairs

- Component repairs and replacement

- Crane servicing and preventative maintenance

There is plenty of variety, and you're not going to be doing the same service job every day.

What You'll Be Doing

As our Workshop Leading Hand, you'll help manage the day-to-day flow of work through the workshop.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Leading and supporting our workshop mechanics and apprentices

- Allocating jobs and helping organise the daily workload

- Keeping jobs moving and identifying hold-ups early

- Assisting with mechanical fault finding and difficult repairs

- Working on the tools when required

- Checking completed repairs and workmanship

- Helping technicians with technical questions and problem solving

- Mentoring and developing apprentices and less experienced mechanics

- Coordinating with our workshop administration team on jobs, parts and customer requirements

- Making sure technician notes, labour and job information are completed properly

- Helping organise parts and outside services required for jobs

- Maintaining good workshop organisation, safety and housekeeping

- Helping improve workshop processes as Redline continues to grow

- Getting involved in development, prototype and improvement projects where required

Who We're Looking For

We don't expect you to know every crane system on your first day.

We are looking for someone with a strong mechanical background who understands how a good workshop should operate and can help bring the team with them.

Ideally you'll have:

- Australian recognised mechanical trade qualification

- Heavy Diesel, Heavy Vehicle, Mobile Plant or similar experience

- Previous Leading Hand, Senior Mechanic or supervisory experience

- Robust mechanical diagnostic and fault-finding skills

- Good understanding of hydraulic, electrical and mechanical systems

- Confidence leading tradespeople and apprentices

- Good organisation and communication skills

- Pride in the quality of your work

- Ability to make decisions and keep jobs moving

- Australian Driver's Licence

Crane experience is highly regarded,

but not essential for the right person.

If you've worked on mining equipment, earthmoving equipment, trucks, mobile plant or other heavy machinery, your skills can transfer well into cranes.

We would also be interested in someone who enjoys engineering, fabrication, diagnostics, rebuilding components and developing better ways of doing things.

Why Redline Cranes?

Redline Cranes is an independent WA crane company based in Kewdale.

We specialise in Crane Hire, Crane Sales, Parts, Servicing, Repairs and Major Inspections, with a strong focus on Franna Pick & Carry cranes and mobile lifting equipment.

We have built our workshop around doing more work in-house and giving our team exposure to the complete machine — not just changing parts.

At Redline you'll have the opportunity to:

- Lead a growing mechanical workshop team

- Stay hands-on rather than moving completely into the office

- Work on specialised cranes and heavy equipment

- Get involved in engine, transmission, hydraulic and component rebuilds

- Work alongside fabrication and electrical work

- Get involved in prototype and development projects

- Help develop apprentices and younger mechanics

- Have input into how the workshop operates

- Work directly with management and the people making the decisions

- Learn specialised crane systems and diagnostics

- Be part of future EV crane and crane development projects

- Work locally from our Kewdale workshop

We're looking for someone who takes ownership of their work and enjoys seeing a job completed properly.

Already Doing the Job Without the Title?

You may already be the mechanic who:

- Other technicians come to when they get stuck

- Helps organise the jobs in the workshop

- Trains the apprentices

- Diagnoses the difficult faults

- Checks everyone else's work

- Keeps things moving when the supervisor isn't around

If that sounds like you, you may be ready to take the next step.

Interested?

If you're looking for a hands-on Leading Hand role where you can lead a crew, work on interesting equipment and have genuine input into the workshop, we'd like to talk to you.

Send your resume to: ••••@redlinecranes.com.au

Your safety and well-being matter to us. If deemed successful, you must undergo drug and alcohol screening before your interview.
