Purchasing, supplier relationships, product data and inventory planning
Altona, Melbourne | Full-time
Own purchasing and supply, strengthen our product data and help shape our range.
Designer Doorware has been designing and manufacturing premium architectural door hardware in Melbourne since 1996. Our products feature in homes, apartments and commercial projects across Australia, with much of our range still finished by hand at our Altona factory.
We’re looking for a hands-on Purchasing and Product Manager to take a key role in our operations, bringing together supplier management, purchasing, inventory planning and product range support.
The role
You’ll work closely with sales, design, production and planning to ensure our products are accurately established in our systems, reliably supplied and appropriately stocked.
You’ll own purchasing and supplier relationships, manage inventory performance and help guide decisions about what we stock, introduce, improve or phase out.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Purchasing and suppliers: Manage purchasing from requirements planning through to delivery. Negotiate pricing and terms, strengthen Australian and overseas supplier relationships, and address quality, delivery and supply risks.
- Product codes and ERP data: Own the creation and maintenance of product and component codes, SKUs and master records in Priority ERP. Work with product design to ensure descriptions, specifications, units of measure, bills of materials, drawing references and supplier cross-references are accurate, consistent and correctly linked across purchasing, inventory, production and sales.
- Inventory planning and stock mix: Review demand, stock movement and lead times to set replenishment levels, maintain availability and control working capital. Identify and act on excess,
slow-moving and obsolete stock.
- Product range and lifecycle: Analyse sales, margins and range performance to recommend improvements. Coordinate sourcing, costing, system setup and stock planning for new products, range changes and discontinuations.
- Freight, costing and stock control: Coordinate freight forwarders, shipping schedules & Customs documentation. Assist in overseeing stocktakes, cycle counts and the resolution of inventory discrepancies.
- Reporting and improvement: Monitor purchasing, supplier, inventory and product performance, and turn findings into practical improvements.
What you’ll bring
- Typically 3 or more years of experience in purchasing, procurement or inventory management within a manufacturing or product-based business.
- Strong supplier negotiation skills and experience with overseas sourcing, international freight and landed costs.
- Hands-on experience creating and maintaining product and component records in an ERP, including codes, SKUs, bills of materials and related data. Priority experience would be an advantage.
- Sound inventory planning skills and experience contributing to stock mix or product range decisions.
- Solid Excel and analytical skills, with the commercial judgement to balance cost, availability, margins and stock investment.
- A practical, accountable approach and the ability to work effectively with engineers, production, sales and finance.
Experience in architectural hardware, building products or metal manufacturing would be well regarded, but is not essential.
What’s on offer
A hands-on role with direct access to the executive team, broad ownership and the opportunity to influence how we purchase, manage and develop our product range. Join a close-knit team in an established Melbourne manufacturing business where your decisions make a visible difference.
