Looksmart Alterations Pty Ltd is seeking a skilled Alterations/Tailoring Specialist/Sewing Machinist to join our team on a casual basis. Based at our Perth Airport, WA 6105 location, this role offers flexibility whilst providing essential tailoring and alteration services to our valued clients. As a Sewing Machinist, you will be at the heart of our operations, delivering high-quality alterations and bespoke tailoring work that keeps our customers looking their best. This position is crucial to maintaining our reputation for excellence in the tailoring and alterations industry.
Key responsibilities
- Perform a wide range of alterations on garments including hemming, taking in seams, adjusting waistbands, and repairing zips and seams
- Operate industrial and domestic sewing machines with precision and efficiency to meet quality standards
- Take accurate measurements from clients and interpret alteration requirements correctly
- Assess garment condition and advise clients on the feasibility of requested alterations
- Maintain a clean and organised workstation, ensuring all tools and equipment are properly maintained
- Meet agreed turnaround times whilst maintaining exceptional quality standards
- Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs and manage expectations
- Follow health and safety procedures relevant to the tailoring and sewing environment
What we're looking for
- Proven experience as a Sewing Machinist, Tailor, or Dressmaker within the tailoring and alterations industry
- Expert proficiency in operating industrial and domestic sewing machines
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, fabrics, and alteration techniques
- Excellent hand-sewing skills for detailed work and repairs
- Ability to take precise measurements and interpret alteration requirements accurately
- Attention to detail with a commitment to delivering high-quality work consistently
- Good customer service skills and the ability to communicate clearly with clients
- Reliability and the ability to work independently, meeting agreed deadlines
- Physical capability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
- Preferred: Experience in bespoke tailoring or specialised garment repairs
