EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST – COTS Crew Divers Work on the World Heritage-listed Excellent Barrier Reef!

We are seeking Expressions of Interest from divers to join our team undertaking Crown-of-Thorns Starfish (COTS) control operations between Lizard Island and the Whitsundays.

This is a casual role based in Cairns, Queensland, supporting marine science and environmental conservation efforts. Divers play a critical role in conducting underwater control activities, contributing to reef protection and the broader health of the Great Barrier Reef.

Working as part of a collaborative and safety-focused team, you will operate in a dynamic and challenging remote workplace, assisting with in-water operations and supporting the delivery of high-quality program outcomes.

Divers are required to live and work at sea for periods of up to 20 days and must maintain their own accommodation while ashore.

Key objectives of the role include:
Dive safely
Conduct COTS population suppression and protect sites from COTS damage
Ensure that the marine tourism industry is given the best possible COTS protection




Act as lookout, deckhand, first aider and tender coxswain
Work within and contribute positively to a diverse team
Keep all required qualifications and documentation up to date
Provide and maintain (in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications) all required personal dive equipment
Accurately record all required information after each dive.

Minimum certifications
Dive Master or above
Occupational Dive Medical AS2299.1
HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
HLTAID015 – Provide advanced resuscitation
HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Desirable skills and attributes
Coxswain, Master 5, MED
Exemption 38
Marine Science
Trade tickets
Ability to work in a diverse team setting
Leadership
