About Legal Aid NSW
We stand beside people when they need it most.
At Legal Aid NSW, fairness isn't just a legal principle, it shapes everything we do - our culture, our services, our workplace and our decisions.
Since ****, Legal Aid NSW has provided legal advice, support and representation in criminal, family and civil law, helping people across NSW navigate hardship and complex legal issues.
Our work is challenging, but deeply meaningful.
In partnerships with LawAccess NSW, Community Legal Centres and the Aboriginal Legal Service NSW/ACT, we are located throughout the state including our Central Sydney office, 25 regional offices, and satellite and outreach offices.
Our People & Culture function plays an important role in making sure those people can access practical, reliable and responsive support when they need it.
We are modernising People & Culture
Legal Aid NSW is modernising how People & Culture works.
We are building a more connected and responsive service model, using better technology, clearer service pathways and stronger insights to make HR simpler, more consistent and easier to access for employees and leaders.
About the Role
As a Capability and Performance Lead, you will take ownership of a capability domain across learning, leadership, performance or talent.
That means end-to-end ownership.
You will shape frameworks and program cycles, design practical content and learning pathways, facilitate capability uplift and evaluate whether the work is making a difference.
You will work closely with Senior People Partners and leaders, so enterprise approaches are consistent, but still practical for different portfolios, regions and workforce groups.
The work will combine design, facilitation, advice and delivery.
You may be developing a leadership pathway, refreshing a performance tool, facilitating a manager session, reviewing evaluation data, coordinating specialist input or working with a Senior People Partner to respond to a portfolio capability need.
You will have autonomy within your domain and will be expected to keep the work practical, scalable and connected to organisational priorities.
What you'll be trusted to do
Own an assigned capability and performance domain and keep its frameworks, tools, program cycles and guidance clear, current and scalable
Design and deliver structured program cycles across learning, leadership, performance or talent
Lead facilitation, content design, learning pathway development and capability uplift initiatives
Partner with Senior People Partners and leaders to understand portfolio needs and support consistent application of enterprise frameworks
Coordinate advisory and specialist contributions so capability effort is directed to priority organisational outcomes
Use participation data, evaluation outcomes and stakeholder feedback to assess impact and improve future program design
Provide specialist advice on capability development, leadership uplift, performance enablement and talent practices
About You
You like turning broad organisational priorities into practical tools, experiences and programs that leaders and employees can actually use.
You are likely someone who:
has experience designing, delivering and evaluating learning, leadership, performance, talent or organisational capability initiatives
is a strong facilitator and can translate complex ideas into clear, practical content
can work across competing priorities and coordinate outcomes through collaboration rather than direct authority
uses data, evaluation and feedback to improve program quality and impact
builds strong relationships with HR colleagues, leaders and external specialists
is comfortable owning a domain and being accountable for how it evolves over time
You Belong Here
Here, every role has purpose.
Whether you're delivering frontline legal services or strengthening our organisation from behind the scenes, you'll help create fairer outcomes for the people across NSW.
We're building a workplace where every culture, identity, ability and voice are included and valued.
We welcome Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with visible and invisible disability, culturally diverse communities, and LGBTQI+ communities so you can connect and flourish at every stage of career.
