Job Description
Location:
South Yarra, onsite
Part-time:
4 set days per week
Reporting to:
Experience Team Lead
n
We're looking for a
Technology Specialist
to take ownership of the technology, systems and technical problem-solving that keeps ANGRYchair running.
n
This is not a traditional IT support role.
n
We're looking for someone who is naturally good with technology, loves solving problems, can work things out quickly, and is comfortable taking responsibility for things they may not have seen before.
n
You do not need to know everything already.
n
You do need to be the kind of person who can look at a problem, investigate it, use ChatGPT or Claude, Google it, read documentation, test a few things, call one of our external specialists if needed, and keep going until the problem is resolved.
n
One day you might be troubleshooting why an editor's Mac is running slowly.
n
The next you might be researching replacement computers, improving the way our website gets updated, reviewing how we use AI safely, working through a HubSpot problem, checking our password and access setup, improving our LTO archive process, or coordinating with our external IT provider.
n
The big goal is simple: make sure our team can work effectively and technical problems don't need to become the Founder's problems.
n
You'll sit within our Experience Team, reporting to our Experience Team Lead, and work closely with our Data & Automation Engineer, who focuses more deeply on coding, integrations and automation.
What you'll own Technology and problem-solving n
You'll become the first person the team turns to when something technological isn't working properly.
n
That might include:
n
n
Troubleshooting Macs, monitors, printers, peripherals and everyday software issues
n
Investigating hardware or performance problems affecting our editors and creative team
n
Researching current computers, equipment and software
n
Helping determine when technology should be repaired, upgraded, replaced or retired
n
Coordinating with external IT providers such as CompNow and other technical specialists
n
Identifying recurring problems and finding ways to stop them happening again
n
n
You won't need to personally solve every technical issue. You will need to
own the outcome
,
rather than simply passing problems on.
Business systems n
You'll help take ownership of the platforms and systems we use to run the business.
n
This will include developing a strong understanding of systems such as:
n
n
HubSpot
n
Google Workspace
n
Airtable
n
Notion
n
WordPress
n
Frame.io
n
Vimeo
n
Our internal forms, tools and SaaS platforms
n
n
You'll help keep these systems organised, usable and working together properly.
n
You'll also look for bottlenecks and opportunities to improve how we use them.
n
For example, if publishing a blog is taking too long, your job isn't simply to upload the blog.
n
Your job is to understand
why it is taking too long and improve the process
.
Systems improvement and automation n
You'll work closely with our Data & Automation Engineer to improve the way ANGRYchair operates.
n
You'll need to be able to understand a workflow, identify where things are going wrong or wasting time, and work out what a better process could look like.
n
Where deeper coding, APIs or automation are required, you'll build the solution together using tools such as n8n, Zapier, Snowflake and BigQuery.
n
You'll often be responsible for defining the problem,
understanding the business need and making sure the final solution actually works for the team.
Cybersecurity and access n
You'll help ensure ANGRYchair uses technology safely and sensibly.
n
This may include:
n
n
Password management
n
Passkeys and multi-factor authentication
n
Account permissions and access
n
User onboarding and offboarding
n
Device security
n
SaaS access
n
AI security and data handling
n
Backup procedures
n
Vendor access
n
General cybersecurity hygiene
n
n
You are not expected to be a cybersecurity expert.
n
You are expected to recognise when something needs deeper expertise, research the issue and engage the right external specialist where required.
AI and emerging technology n
AI is becoming an increasingly key part of how we work.
n
You'll help ANGRYchair understand how to use AI tools effectively and safely.
n
This could include:
n
n
Evaluating new AI tools
n
Helping establish safe and practical AI policies
n
Understanding privacy, security and data risks
n
Helping team members use AI more effectively
n
Identifying repetitive work that technology could improve
n
Working with our Data & Automation Engineer on AI-enabled workflows
n
Keeping across relevant technology changes without chasing every shiny recent thing
n
n
We're particularly interested in someone who already uses tools such as ChatGPT or Claude as part of the way they research, learn and solve problems.
Media technology, storage and archive n
Video Production comes with some specialised technology requirements.
n
Over time, you'll develop a strong understanding of how our media and storage environment works, including:
n
n
Media ingest
n
File storage
n
Backups
n
LTO tape archive
n
Archive retrieval and recovery
n
Shared storage
n
Drive and network performance
n
Media workflows
n
Equipment lifecycle
n
n
You don't need to arrive knowing all of this.
n
You need to be technically curious enough to learn it and eventually take ownership of it.
Documentation and business continuity n
A major part of this role is making yourself replaceable.
n
We do not want key knowledge living inside one person's head.
n
You'll be responsible for building and maintaining a useful internal knowledge base covering things such as:
n
n
Systems maps
n
Workflow diagrams
n
Technical procedures
n
Troubleshooting guides
n
Vendor contacts
n
Escalation pathways
n
Hardware and software registers
n
Access and permission structures
n
Backup and recovery procedures
n
Archive processes
n
Important technical decisions and why they were made
n
Onboarding and offboarding procedures
n
"What do I do if this breaks?" guides
n
n
Solve it once. Document it. Make the next time easier. Automate it where worthwhile.
What success looks like n
You are succeeding in this role when:
n
n
The team knows who to go to when they have a technology problem.
n
Technical issues are resolved quickly and reliably, and repetitive problems gradually disappear
n
Changes, outages and new tools are communicated clearly and early across the team,
avoiding disruption to projects and deadlines
n
HubSpot and our other business systems are properly understood and supported, and become easier to understand and use over time
n
Technology decisions are researched properly before money is spent, and external providers are managed effectively
n
Our cybersecurity and access practices are sensible and well maintained
n
Systems and workflows become better documented, so key knowledge does not depend on one person
n
Our use of AI and emerging technology becomes safer and more useful
n
You regularly identify improvements we hadn't thought to ask for
n
You'll probably be great at this if you... n
You'll probably be great at this if you...
n
n
Are naturally curious about technology and how things work
n
Love solving problems
n
Are comfortable saying "I don't know yet, but I'll work it out"
n
Can independently research and investigate unfamiliar problems
n
Use AI tools intelligently as part of your problem-solving process
n
Have broad technical knowledge rather than only one narrow specialisation
n
Are confident working in a Mac environment
n
Understand basic IT concepts without needing to be a hardcore IT engineer
n
Can explain technical things in plain English
n
Are comfortable dealing with suppliers and external specialists
n
Can make recommendations rather than simply presenting information
n
Are organised and follow problems through until they are actually resolved
n
Notice inefficient processes and instinctively want to improve them
n
Document things properly instead of keeping knowledge in your head
n
Enjoy helping people and making their work easier
n
Are comfortable balancing lots of different small and large problems
n
Know when to keep investigating and when to bring in an expert
n
Experience that would be useful n
You don't need experience in every one of these areas, but some exposure to the following would be valuable:
n
n
Mac hardware and macOS
n
Business IT support
n
SaaS platforms
n
Google Workspace
n
CRM systems such as HubSpot
n
WordPress or website administration
n
Cybersecurity fundamentals
n
Password managers and identity management
n
Device management
n
Networking fundamentals
n
Backup systems
n
Storage and file management
n
AI tools
n
Process mapping
n
Documentation and knowledge bases
n
Hardware procurement
n
Working with external IT providers
n
n
HubSpot and Project Management experience would be a huge plus, however not essential.
n
Experience in a creative, media or video production environment would be helpful, but it is not essential.
What this role is not n
This is not a helpdesk role where you wait for tickets.
n
It is not a hardcore engineering or coding role.
n
It is not a video production technical role focused on cameras, lighting or production equipment.
n
It is not a senior executive technology role.
n
It is a hands‐on role for someone who can understand technology, take ownership, solve problems and continuously improve how a small business works.
ANGRYchair's Core Values n
n
Smart, not Hard
n
Razzle Dazzle
n
We're Not Saving Lives Here
n
Bloody Excellent
n
Improve Continuously
n
Focus on People
n
n
If you're the kind of person who likes being handed a messy problem, working out what's actually going on, fixing it properly and then making sure everyone knows how it works next time, we'll probably get along very well.
