About the role
The NSW Department of Education is seeking an experienced and passionate technology leader to join our Information Technology Directorate as the
IT Disaster Recovery, Resilience & Major Incident Manager
.
This is a unique opportunity to shape and lead the Department's IT resilience, disaster recovery and major incident capability across a large and complex technology environment relied upon by hundreds of thousands of students, teachers and staff across New South Wales.
As the IT Disaster Recovery, Resilience & Major Incident Manager, you will provide
strategic leadership, direction and governance
for the organisation's technology resilience and recovery capability.
You will play a critical role in ensuring that critical technology services are prepared to withstand, respond to and recover from significant disruptions.
You will lead the ongoing uplift of disaster recovery and resilience capability, establish effective recovery standards and governance, strengthen operational readiness, and drive continuous improvement across critical technology services.
A key component of the role will be leading and coordinating the Department's approach to
major incident management
, ensuring that significant technology disruptions are managed effectively, stakeholders are appropriately engaged, recovery efforts are coordinated, and lessons learned translate into meaningful improvements.
Working closely with architects, platform owners, cyber security specialists, infrastructure teams, application teams, technology enablement and service management professionals, you will provide expert advice and influence enterprise-wide outcomes that reduce organisational risk and strengthen the resilience and recoverability of technology services.
You will also partner with senior technology leaders to identify resilience risks, address capability gaps,
strengthen recovery strategies and ensure that the Department is operationally prepared to respond when critical technology services are disrupted.
This is a role where your leadership will have a tangible impact — helping ensure the technology that supports NSW education remains resilient, recoverable and fit for purpose.

About you -
You are an experienced technology leader with a strong background in
IT disaster recovery, technology resilience, major incident management and service continuity
.
You bring strategic thinking and operational leadership together, with the ability to move confidently between enterprise strategy, governance and the practical realities of recovering complex technology services.
You will have demonstrated experience in:
Leading or managing enterprise IT disaster recovery, resilience and business continuity capabilities.
Developing and implementing disaster recovery strategies, frameworks, standards and governance models.
Leading major incident response and coordinating diverse technical teams during high-impact technology disruptions.
Establishing recovery objectives, assessing technology dependencies and improving the recoverability of critical services.
Designing, coordinating and evaluating disaster recovery tests, exercises and simulations.
Identifying resilience risks and driving practical remediation across complex technology environments.
Working collaboratively with architecture, infrastructure, applications, cyber security, cloud and service management teams.
Influencing senior stakeholders and technical leaders to achieve enterprise-wide outcomes.
Developing meaningful governance, reporting, assurance and continuous-improvement practices.
Turning lessons from incidents, exercises and risk assessments into measurable improvements in technology resilience.
Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department's Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department's Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential requirements of the role
Current and valid Working with Children Check (WWCC)
Clearance for paid employment.
Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) certification and/or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education .
