We are looking for people who understand that high-quality disability support is about more than completing tasks. It requires patience, consistency, dignity, careful observation and the ability to adapt as a participant's physical, cognitive and communication needs change.

You will work within a
Supported Independent Living (SIL) setting
, providing person-centred support to participants with Huntington's disease who may have complex and progressively changing support needs.
n
Depending on the participant and your training and competency, your responsibilities may include:
n
n
Assistance with personal care, showering, dressing and continence support;
n
Supporting mobility, transfers, positioning and safe manual handling;
n
Mealtime assistance and following individual swallowing and nutrition plans;
n
PEG-related support where required and within your training and competency;
n
Medication assistance in accordance with medication plans and organisational procedures;
n
Supporting communication where speech or cognitive changes make communication more difficult;
n
Recognising and reporting changes in health, mobility, swallowing, behaviour,
cognition or general wellbeing;
n
Following clinical care plans, risk assessments and allied-health recommendations;
n
Supporting appointments, community access and meaningful activities;
n
Maintaining accurate progress notes, incident reports and other required documentation;
n
Working collaboratively with nurses, allied health professionals, families, Support Coordinators and the broader care team;
n
Providing emotional reassurance and maintaining a calm environment; and
n
Supporting participants to maintain as much
choice, independence, dignity and quality of life
as possible.
n
Who We Are Looking For n
We particularly welcome applicants with previous experience supporting people with:
n
Huntington's disease, acquired brain injury, neurological conditions, complex physical disability, PEG feeding, dysphagia, complex personal care, palliative approaches or high-intensity daily personal activities.
n
Previous Huntington's disease experience is highly desirable; however, applicants with strong complex-care experience and a genuine willingness to undertake participant-specific training are also encouraged to apply.
n
You will need to be someone who is:
n
n
Patient, calm and emotionally mature;
n
Respectful and compassionate;
n
Comfortable working with progressive and complex disability;
n
Able to follow clinical instructions precisely;
n
Observant and able to recognise changes in a participant's presentation;
n
Reliable and punctual;
n
Confident with documentation and incident reporting;
n
Able to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team;
n
Comfortable providing personal care with dignity and sensitivity; and
n
Committed to maintaining professional boundaries and participant confidentiality.
n
Qualifications & Requirements n
Applicants should have, or be willing to obtain as applicable:
n
n
Certificate III/IV in Individual Support, Disability, Community Services or equivalent relevant experience;
n
NDIS Worker Screening Check;
n
ACT Working With Vulnerable People registration;
n
Current First Aid and CPR;
n
Current Australian driver licence;
n
NDIS Worker Orientation Module;
n
Relevant medication and manual-handling competencies; and
n
Additional participant-specific clinical training where required.
n
Training and Clinical Support n
Because Huntington's disease is progressive and each participant presents differently, successful candidates will be expected to undertake
participant-specific training and competency assessment
before independently performing complex or high-intensity support tasks.
n
Haven Care Australia works collaboratively with clinical and allied-health professionals to ensure staff understand the participant's current care requirements and are appropriately prepared as those needs change.
Why Join Haven Care Australia? n
You will be joining a team where
consistency and continuity of care matter
. We want to build a stable group of support workers who genuinely get to know the people they support rather than simply filling individual shifts.
n
We offer:
n
n
Competitive remuneration under the
SCHADS Award
, including applicable penalty rates and allowances;
n
Participant-specific training and ongoing development;
n
Support from Team Leaders, Operations and Clinical teams;
n
Opportunities to develop experience in complex disability and neurological care;
n
A supportive multidisciplinary working environment; and
n
Opportunities for ongoing and regular shifts for suitable candidates.
