Integrated Disability Support Services (IDSS)
Help our SIL teams turn knowledge into confident, consistent practice.
IDSS is seeking an experienced
Practice Improvement and Quality Leader
to assess and strengthen the skills of our Supported Independent Living teams.
This is a hands-on role for someone who understands quality disability support, can recognise good practice in a participant's home, and knows how to help workers improve.
Working within IDSS's competency guidelines and existing training matrix, you'll undertake competency and skills assessments, identify development needs, coach staff and follow through to ensure improvements are demonstrated in everyday support.
Your work will help our teams meet the NDIS Practice Standards, including the new SIL Practice Standards, while delivering support that reflects each participant's needs, preferences and goals.
What you'll be doing
Planning and undertaking competency and skills assessments across our SIL teams
Observing everyday support practices in participants' homes, respecting their privacy, preferences and consent
Using practical demonstrations, knowledge assessments, scenarios and reflective discussions to assess worker capability
Assessing how workers apply participant support plans, policies and procedures in practice
Documenting assessment evidence, outcomes and required development actions against IDSS competency guidelines
Identifying individual and team skill gaps and updating records within our existing training matrix
Providing clear, constructive feedback and practical coaching to Lifestyle Mentors and team leaders
Coordinating targeted training,



supervised practice and reassessment where further development is required
Checking that training translates into safe, consistent support across workers and shifts
Working with Participant Liaison Officers, HR and management to prioritise workforce development
Using participant feedback, incidents, complaints and audit findings to identify practice improvement opportunities
Escalating unsafe practice or competency concerns promptly and following through on agreed actions
Coordinating specialist training or assessment where clinical or technical expertise is required
The practice areas you'll support
You'll help our teams demonstrate capability in areas such as:
Person-centred support and respect for participants' rights
Supported decision-making, choice and dignity of risk
Active support that builds participation and independence
Trauma-informed approaches and cultural safety
Communication tailored to each participant
Safeguarding and recognising and responding to abuse or neglect
Implementing positive behaviour support plans and understanding restrictive practice requirements
Secure support routines, documentation and incident responses
Participant-specific support needs and emergency arrangements
About you
We're looking for someone who combines strong disability sector experience with the ability to assess fairly, coach effectively and address concerns confidently.
You'll bring:




Demonstrated experience in SIL service delivery and practice leadership
Strong working knowledge of the NDIS Practice Standards, including the current SIL Practice Standards
Experience assessing staff competency and providing practical, evidence-based feedback
The ability to distinguish between completing training and demonstrating competence
Confidence observing support delivery and having constructive conversations about practice
Experience developing staff capability through coaching, mentoring or training
Strong assessment documentation, organisation and follow-up skills
Sound judgement about when specialist or clinical assessment is needed
An approachable manner and the confidence to uphold clear standards
Relevant qualifications in disability, community services, education, training and assessment, or a related field would be highly regarded.
