This position sits within the People and Culture team and is part of the Corporate Branch.
The Senior HR Advisor provides expert guidance and support to DTA employees on a range of human resource matters including, Work Health and Safety (WHS), rehabilitation, performance management, and employee conduct.
This role offers the opportunity to work across diverse areas of HR, helping you build broad expertise while exploring what truly interests you.
You'll be supported to learn, grow, and contribute to meaningful initiatives that shape the employee experience at DTA.
The Senior HR Advisor will be a human-centered and collaborative skilled, with proven experience in managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
Please note: This role may require interstate travel from time to time.
The key duties of the position include:
Manage straightforward and complex and sensitive HR cases across the Performance Wellbeing & Integrity (PWI) portfolio, including rehabilitation (compensable and non-compensable), performance and probation, providing clear, impartial and well-reasoned advice to employees and managers while maintaining accurate and robust case records.
Apply sound judgement to develop and implement early intervention strategies, interpret and apply relevant legislation, policies and frameworks, and support employees and managers to navigate case-related matters effectively.
Deliver timely, accurate and professional advice to employees and managers on APS employment legislation, conditions and frameworks,
ensuring advice is riskaware, consistent and defensible, and escalating complex or high-risk matters to the EL1.
Contribute to the development, review and continuous improvement of HR policies, procedures and guidance materials to promote best-practice approaches to case management, WHS and performance management.
Support DTA's WHS obligations by contributing to incident management, reporting and investigations; identifying and assessing psychosocial and physical risks and controls; and supporting the effective delivery of the Employee Assistance Program.
Contribute to the implementation of health, safety and wellbeing initiatives, programs and systems under EL1 direction, applying evidence-based and user-centred approaches.
Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of People and Culture services, processes and systems, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance the employee and manager experience.
Manage or contribute to discrete HR projects and workstreams under EL1 direction, applying agile and user-focused methodologies, coordinating stakeholders and delivering practical outcomes.
Prepare high-quality briefings, reports and correspondence on HR matters, including advice for senior leaders and contributions to cross-functional initiatives under limited direction.
Develop and deliver communication strategies and educational resources to support People and Culture projects and initiatives contributing to manager and employee capability across the agency.
Contribute to regular reporting, data analysis and briefing activities to support business planning, governance and decision-making.
Support the coordination and management of workplace adjustments and workstation assessments, providing advice to employees and managers and maintaining accurate records.
Provide support and coordination for First Aid Officers, Mental Health First Aid Officers and Health and Safety Representatives, including maintaining records and supporting access to resources.
Coordinate and provide operational support to the Safe Space Officer cohort, including scheduling meetings, delivering resources and capability uplift sessions and maintaining the corporate role register, with EL1 retaining governance accountability.
Engage with the graduate cohort to support peer connection, early intervention and wellbeing initiatives, identifying welfare concerns and escalating to the EL1 as required.
Highly desirable:
Ability to form solid stakeholder relationships at all levels.
Experience in case management, particularly proven experience in performance and behaviour.
Strong understanding of the case management lifecycle.
Experience with the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation Act and the Work Health and Safety Act.
Eligibility
Security Clearance level required: Baseline (or ability to obtain and maintain).
To be eligible for employment with the DTA applicants must be an Australian citizen.
An applicant's suitability for employment with the DTA will be assessed through a pre-employment screening process.
This process includes an Australian Police check.
