We're seeking a creative, skilled, and values-driven Communications and Design Officer to join our National Campaign and Growth team.
You'll contribute ideas, try new approaches and work with a supportive multidisciplinary team to produce content across social media, digital campaigns, websites, email, video, photography, and print.

About the role
As Communications and Design Officer, you'll play a key role in bringing campaigns and member stories to life through engaging content, strong visual communication, and digital storytelling.
Working closely with members, delegates, ASU branches, and National Office staff, you'll create communications that help workers understand issues, connect with each other, and take part in campaigns that deliver real change.
This is a varied, hands‐on role spanning writing, design, social media, video, photography, email, websites, and campaign communications.
You'll contribute from concept and creative development through to production,
publication, and evaluation.
You'll be part of a multidisciplinary team focused on growing the union, strengthening member engagement, and supporting campaigns that improve outcomes for working people.
Key responsibilities
Create engaging content across social media, email, websites, video, print, presentations, and merchandise.
Turn complex workplace, industrial and policy issues into clear, compelling communications.
Tell authentic stories that highlight workplace wins, collective action, and union impact.
Support national campaigns and member engagement, recruitment, and retention initiatives.
Develop and deliver social media and digital campaigns, including organic and paid content.
Design campaign assets, communications materials, and branch resources.
Produce video and photographic content for campaigns, events, and member communications.
Use audience insights and performance data to improve communications and engagement outcomes.
About you
You'll bring:
Relevant qualifications in communications, design, digital media, marketing or a related field, and/or equivalent professional experience.
At least three to five years' experience in communications, content creation, digital media, campaigning, design, or a related role.
Solid writing, editing,
and storytelling skills.
Experience creating content across social media, email, websites, print, and digital channels.
Strong design skills using Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud.
Experience capturing video and photography content.
Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
A team-oriented approach, sound judgement, and the ability to work independently when required.
Experience using audience insights and performance data to improve content and engagement.
A commitment to improving the lives of working people.
The following will be highly regarded:
Website management, CMS, and email marketing experience.
Experience with Google Analytics or similar reporting tools.
Experience in unions, campaigning, advocacy, community organisations, or social justice movements.
You do not need to meet every criterion to apply.
