Nganampa Health Council | Remote service delivery across the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands. | $210,000–$240,000 + Super + Salary Packaging

Nganampa Health Council (NHC) is seeking an experienced and adaptable Dentist to lead the Dental Program across the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in far north-west South Australia.

This is a unique remote clinical role providing comprehensive oral health care to children and adults across a vast geographic area. Services are delivered from fixed dental clinics at Pukatja and Iwantja, as well as through a mobile dental surgery travelling to communities across the APY Lands.

The successful candidate will work with a high degree of clinical autonomy across a broad scope of general dentistry, including restorative, endodontic, periodontic and dento-alveolar procedures, with specialist referral available off the Lands.

The role is primarily based on the APY Lands, with periods of off-Lands work for administration and program development. NHC is advertising the position as full-time, however part-time or job-share arrangements may also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide general and emergency dental care to adults and children across the APY Lands.
- Deliver and maintain NHC’s established Dental Program across major communities.
- Provide restorative, preventive, endodontic, periodontal and minor oral surgical treatment.
- Lead and support Dental Assistants and work collaboratively with NHC clinical teams.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and comply with relevant clinical, infection-control and governance requirements.
- Manage dental supplies, equipment and maintenance requirements.
- Participate in oral health promotion, program development and evaluation.
- Provide on-call and telehealth support where required.

Essential Qualifications & Experience
- BDS,



DDS/DMD or equivalent dental qualification recognised in Australia.
- Current general registration with the Dental Board of Australia/AHPRA.
- Current SA radiation licence, or ability to obtain one before commencement.
- Experience and confidence in extractions and minor oral surgery.
- Ability to work autonomously in a remote clinical environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work respectfully in a cross-cultural setting.
- Minimum five years’ general dental experience.

Desirable
- Remote-area clinical experience.
- Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Knowledge of Pitjantjatjara or Yankunytjatjara.
- Experience with Titanium and Communicare.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Primary Health Care, Public Health or Dental Public Health.

About You





This unique and rewarding role will suit an experienced Dentist who is confident working autonomously and is motivated by providing high-quality care in a remote community setting.

You will bring:

- A recognised dental qualification and current general registration with the Dental Board of Australia/AHPRA.
- A minimum of five years’ general dental experience.
- Solid clinical capability, including confidence in dental extractions and minor oral surgery.
- Experience in paediatric dentistry and in managing the oral health needs of patients with diabetes and other chronic conditions.
- The ability to work independently, make sound clinical decisions and manage risk without immediate on-site peer support.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships with patients, colleagues and other health professionals.
- Demonstrated cultural capability and the ability to work respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
- A current driver’s licence and the flexibility to travel and work across remote APY Lands communities.

Previous remote-area clinical experience, experience within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation, knowledge of Pitjantjatjara or Yankunytjatjara, and experience with Titanium or Communicare will be highly regarded.

This role requires a National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check. Applicants must have current Australian work rights. NHC does not provide visa sponsorship.
