Position Description
Role Title: Business Development Manager
Reports to: Managing Director
Company Designation: Visual, Learning Services and Training
Location: Australia, some client-site presence required.
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Industry: Client Industries include Mining and Mining Services, Transport and Logistics, Corporate Agriculture, Defence and Energy.

Role Purpose

The Business Development Manager role will be focussed on winning work for the business, both through landing new business opportunities and customers and through expanding the scope of work provided to existing customers.

Key Responsibilities
Note whilst all responsibilities have been listed in detail, not all functions occur on daily basis, some are more irregular.

1. Business Development & Relationship Management
• Act as the key relationship manager across government, non-government, and commercial clients
• Drive business development strategies to generate new leads, secure contracts, and grow revenue
• Represent the company as a confident dealmaker, positioning it as a trusted partner in workforce training
• Build and manage a strong referral and partnership network across sectors and industries
• Maintain a robust pipeline and achieve consistent sales and revenue targets

2. Strategy & Market Growth
• Develop and execute a clear commercial strategy aligned to business capabilities and industry needs
• Identify and penetrate key markets and verticals within heavy industry
• Act as the ‘face of the business’ in high-stakes client and stakeholder meetings
• Understand client drivers, funding structures, KPIs, and industry challenges to offer relevant, value-based solutions

3. Delivery and Training Development Support




• Work closely with Delivery staff to provide (to the client) technical knowledge and learning design expertise during client discussions, scoping sessions, and solution development.
• Assist Delivery staff in translating client needs into clear instructional solutions, including recommended approaches, timelines, and delivery formats.

4. Quotation, Scoping & Proposal Development
• Develop detailed project quotes, scoping documents, and delivery plans based on client requirements and technical complexity.
• Cost and estimate animation, filming, development time, and specialist resources accurately.

5. Quality Assurance & Deployment
• Conduct thorough QA of learning modules, animations, and filmed content prior to release to ensure client needs are met.

6. Continuous Improvement
• Identify opportunities to enhance learning experiences through recent technologies, methodologies, and creative approaches.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, emerging tools, and best practice in digital learning, animation, and video-based training.

The Role is supported by:
• Director of Learning Design
• Articulate Storyline Specialist
• Multi-Media Specialists (video editors and animators)
• Ground and Drone Camera Operators

Key Selection Criteria

Essential Skills & Experience
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in sales in a heavy industry environment




• Proven track record of business development and growth
• Demonstrated experience working across both government and non-government sectors
• Deep understanding of how organisations operate, including:
o Decision-making structures
o Key influencers within client businesses
o Sources of funding and procurement models
o Performance KPIs relevant to client success
• Excellent listening and consultative selling skills
• High EQ and IQ – able to build rapport, influence effectively, and think strategically
• High energy
• Natural networker with established industry connections
• Strong commercial acumen and a strategic mindset
• Experience acting as a trusted advisor or account lead to high-value clients

Preferred
• Exposure to training, instructional design, safety, or compliance in heavy industry sectors
• Knowledge of digital learning, SCORM, or video production for training
