The Opportunity
CodeBreakers Pty Ltd is seeking a Senior Research Officer to contribute to its research program in gene editing, RNA biology and mitochondrial biology. The position will be administered through The Kids Research Institute Australia. The role will focus on developing and applying gene-editing and RNA-based approaches relevant to mitochondrial gene expression and function, and evaluating these approaches in cellular and mouse models.
The successful applicant will undertake laboratory-based research involving gene editing, molecular cloning, RNA biology, mammalian cell culture, mitochondrial functional assays and in vivo mouse studies. They will independently design and conduct experiments, establish and optimise methods, analyse and interpret data, maintain rigorous research records, and contribute to project reports, publications, presentations and translational activities.
Based at our offices in Nedlands, this position is offered on a full-time basis for a one-year fixed-term appointment.
The salary range for this role is $103,000 to $111,000 (depending on experience) + Super.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, cell biology or a related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in gene editing or genome engineering, including design and validation of CRISPR/Cas or related editing approaches and generation or characterisation of edited mammalian cell models. Strong expertise in RNA biology, including RNA manipulation and analysis; experience in RNA editing or post-transcriptional regulation is highly relevant.
- Hands-on experience with mouse work, including in vivo experimental design, tissue collection and working under animal ethics approvals. Strong molecular and cell biology skills, including cloning, mammalian cell culture and development of robust experimental workflows.
- Strong analytical skills, including experimental design,
data analysis and interpretation.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research workplace, with strong scientific writing and communication skills.
- Experience with bioinformatics, R, Python or related computational tools is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated expertise in mitochondrial biology, including mitochondrial gene expression, function and/or disease mechanisms is highly desirable.
